as far as manziel goes, he was born into big money & clearly football comes second to partying..

I'm not a fan of his but Its funny how Manziel is crucified for his off field drinking and behavior yet Rob Gronkowski is portrayed as a loveable goof for doing much of the same things.

I've seen as many pics of Gronkowski obviously drunk as I have Johnny Football.

Very good point. It's all bs. Thing is that Gronk is good so people don't view his drinking as a problem. If Johnny was good, he'd get the same benefit

but wasn't manziel drinking becoming a team issue?? late for team functions because of over sleeping.. off field dust ups.. also, didn't manziel admit his drinking was a problem & checked himself into so kind of rehab program??

to my knowledge i don't remember gronkowski putting himself in the situations manziel has..

still, if manziel was an elite player like gronkowski, this thread probably doesn't get started..

I dont feel sorry for any Pro Player in any sport that cant focus on his job that can make him a millionaire & not get into trouble or stop drinking-drugs. Isnt that stupid? Chance to make millions playing a game for a short career & cant control themselves. After career they can party & do all that trash AFTER their career making millions. But hey if they dont want to be Millionaires,I welcome them to the real working class. We had a few College Linemen not able to handle the shipyard work sucking up smoke welding fumes, swing 30lb sledge for 2 hrs,packing gear up ladders stairs all day. Yeah better do that work for 40ty years then be a Pro Players making millions for 10. Makes sense?

of course it makes sense.. but like i said in this thread, manziel was born into great wealth so i doubt NFL money is much of a motivating factor with him..

seems like being an NFL player to him is just something to do..

Of course your right, but man I look back when I was 22-23, I'm sure it wouldn't have gone well is I had 10-20 million to party with.

I do think it's easy to judge, but hard to say what one would actually do if put in the same situation. I like to believe I'd do better, but who knows? I hope the kid gets the help he needs because if his drinking problem is so serious that it would let him ruin his career, then it must be quite serious, and I don't like to see people suffer, even if they kinda did it to themselves.

You either love football and decide to make it your #1 priority for 20 or so years OR you don't.
Manziel is talented and because of that he had a path of least resistance through Highschool, college and until he was drafted into the NFL. Now he's at a level where skating on talent won't cut it any more, especially in a cerebral position like QB.

Speaking from the experience of being in recovery, I have seen many people destroy their entire lives families included (wasn't too far from that myself) because of their disease, and that beats any amount of money every day. Addiction is a bitch. (Be it alcohol OR drugs)
Personally calling him stupid is way off the mark. If you have never been there, u can't even begin to understand.
Just hope that he gets, and accepts the help that he needs in time to salvage his life.

I'm not going to get into the addict crap & this is the only comment about it. I can say I've seen many pass on from it I knew & also seen many who claimed they were to get pity to get out of trouble using that as a excuse. Kid from a wealthy family, got everything he wanted going to a Prep school & college & now to NFL & all of sudden he is this? There are a lot worse off people that come from nothing & broken homes & a far harder life than this kid. So get it together, stop the BS & try to Play. If the entire Nation took the Addicts test they give, 80% would be deemed addicts. He seems like a normal kid his age just wanting to party. An addict I seriously doubt he could have functioned through College & playing football. Both take a higher level of focus mentally & physically to do. A addict would have a very hard time physically to even just work out on a daily basis or be able to do it for 4-5 years at a high level.

It's not about the nfl or the money - everyone has too much to lose - career, family, money, respect, dignity, the list goes on and on. I find it odd that people are so surprised that he can't stop drinking to salvage millions/career while there are thousands that throw away their family and even their life over it??
