Yet most people agree the kid won't be ready to start day 1.

So perhaps he's making that comment as proof that they WON'T be selecting him, because in his opinion anyone you pick that high MUST impact the team as soon as the ink dries . . .

Great news...Winston #1 and Mariota #2 , just as we all knew would happen given the over valuing of QBS

Too bad our head coach, the imbecile circus clown pissed away the #2 with meaningless "wins" at Tenn and Miami.

But, thankfully. he will be off destroying Buffalo for a year or two before firing.

We have a clear shot at one of the blue chip game changers at 6 now.. Fowler, Gregory, Williams, Cooper or White.

We can fix the QB long term hole in round 2 or 3 with Petty, Grayson, Hundley or Mannion and let him learn and develop under Fitzpatrick and Simms in 2015 and win the starting job in 2016

And let Macc plug holes with BPA on the rest

Leaving only two things that could destroy this

1) Running Smith back out there as the starter insuring another failed season

Or

2) throwing away the entire draft and 20+M by trading for the 35 year old San Diego sidearm choke machine.

I think Macc and Bowles are way too smart and savvy to fall into either of these season killing traps

So you think the same day Bowles says Geno will be #1 on the depth chart heading into training camp with Fitz having to beat him out that Geno wont make the 53 man roster? You think he just gets cut in one of our cut downs (im just wondering when and how you think the jets will move on from Geno)?

Don't worry -- you'll get used to him . . .

I am used to him, just trying to see if there is any rationale to his statements. I haven't really seen any but this so far: "Every jets player is awesome and every non-Jets player sucks." I saw a guy he likes from our old board who thinks the same way.

Everyone knows Mariota is not a plug & play QB, too much to learn about the pro game, even his biggest supporters know it, so this is a bad case of posturing by Wizy, when its done right it has to at least be somewhat believable, this telegraphs that he's full of it. Somebody needs to send him back to con-man school.

So I was originally against this move when it was first announced by Wisenhunt earlier in the year but through preseason and week 1, Mariota looks like the real deal. He has a cannon and is very very accurate. Reminds me of a poor man's Aaron Rodgers.

I have said since before the draft Mariota is Rodgers 2.0 and Petty is a poor mans version of Rodgers.... Just my opinion

I would take a poor man's Rodgers any day of the week!

I thought it was gamesmanship when Wisenhunt was talking about drafting Mariota and starting him week one. Like Petty, Mariota played in a spread offense at Oregon and rarely took a snap from center. It looked like he had a big learning curve.

Well he certainly blew that theory to smithereens on Sunday!

Who knows, maybe its been overstated with Petty too?

one game doesn't make an NFL QB....just ask Browning Nagle.

TB defense was so bad it allowed Mariota to hit his first reads - just like college. TB was also woefully underprepared for the spread offense which from my understanding TEN kept under wraps the whole preseason schedule. Let's see how Mariota does when he faces real defenses that will force 2nd -3rd-4th progression reads - let's see if he hangs in the pocket or flees as he was prone to do at college. Good debut, but it was like a WWF scripted match.
