If you had to choose one of these guys as your center who would it be? Both in their prime.

Kevin Mawae (Active 1994-2009)

  • 8× Pro Bowl (1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003,2004, 2008, 2009)
  • 8× All-Pro (1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004,2007, 2008)
  • Kyle Clifton Good Guy Award (1998)
  • Marty Lyons Award (2005)
  • Ed Block Courage Award (2009)
  • NFL 2000s All-Decade Team
  • New York Jets All-Time Four Decade Team
  • LSU Athletic Hall of Fame

Nick Mangold (Active 2006-Present)

  • 6× Pro Bowl (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013,2014)
  • 2× First-team All-Pro (2009, 2010)
  • Second-team All-Pro (2011)
  • 4× Pro Football Focus All-Pro (2009, 2010, 2011, 2014)
  • Ranked #47 in the Top 100 Players of 2011
  • NFL All-Rookie Team (2006)

In my opinion, Mawae just because he's more of a leader and judging by the current team, we need leaders!

Tough call. Nick does everything very well but I do miss the fact that Mawae pushed the play down the field. He always seemed to be 5-10 yards down the field still blocking for the back.

I'd take Mangold over Mawae by a snidge, I think he's up there with Otto and Tinglehoff and is headed for Canton (maybe they both are?)

I still have a soft spot for John Schmidt though. He was not in the company of those named above and he won't be mentioned for historical accolades but he was a real live local guy (Brooklyn/Seton Hall Prep/Hofstra) and we really don't have many of those

Really tough call. It would depend on the style of offense I guess. In this offense I go Nick.

Mawae was very athletic and one of the few centers to pull.

Fer kreist sake.
Do you want to screw the redhead with long legs, an hourglass waist, and sensuality that drips off her in buckets, or the brunett with the big tits and a face that could launch a thousand ships?

What a STOOPIT question.
Most of us couldn't pick one and stick with it for 5 minutes, let alone choose one over the other for good.

I'll say this much however.
Consider the QBs & TEAMS each has played with/on, before you start comparing their individual performances.
THOR has by far had a harder row to hoe throughout his career.
Warren Moon, Vinny T, early Pennington, Vince Young, & Kerry Collins is infinitely preferable to late Pennington, Snatchez, and GeNOT Smith.
That probably goes double for Flores/Erickson, Parcells/Edwards & Fisher vs Mangenius/Rex

Look at this tape and notice who the Titan center was..For me Mangold all the way..

You know I don't even need to look at this, Savage. I am certain I know what you're talking about? Is that link to the 2008 Jets facing the Tennessee Titans and specifically what Kris Jenkins did to Kevin Mawae?:)

It also needs to be known that Nick Mangold is still playing. His attributes may not be what Mawae's were at this point in time, but they will likely equal or even surpass Mawae by the time Mangold is ready to retire.

The funny part for me is I had no idea who Tenn was playing because we were wearing those beyond hideous Titans throwbacks

Mawae was very good- but Mangold is a tad better. Nick can handle the bigger guys better than Mawae could.
