At least he was a QB, albeit not a very good one
Charlie Lau, the best hitting coach in MLB history was a crappy hitter

Ted Williams, arguably the best hitter in baseball history was a terrible hitting instructor

How does a WR coach become a QB coach?

From what I have read he was an ASST. WR's coach. Don't think I have ever seen, at least can't remember, an ASST. WR's coach promoted to a QB coach.

A QB coach is usually a pretty important guy on your team. Particularly when you have a young QB who seems lost out there 90% of the time.

Patullo is a fairly young guy. 35 I think. Gailey worked with him for 2 years in Buffalo. With this monster promotion, have to assume Gailey really liked him, thinks he is very intelligent , and has a bright future. Maybe OC when Gailey decides to hang it up

Think this hire brings clues to some major things that are going to go on with the Offense. Gailey is in fact going to be the QB coach, while Patullo learns his trade, and implements the instructions that Gailey has for his QB.

Smith will be on a very short leash, and Gailey will throw the towel in on him very quickly.

A veteran QB will be brought in, who has worked with Gailey before, and doesn't need a QB coach wiping his nose , and walking around behind him telling him not to run toward his own goal line every 10 minutes.

Steve Marshall Takes Over Jets' O-Line, Kevin Patullo Quarterbacks & Marcel Shipp Running Backs

Three offensive position coaches have been named to Jets head coach Todd Bowles' coaching staff — Steve Marshall as offensive line coach, Kevin Patullo as quarterbacks coach, and Marcel Shipp as running backs coach.

Steve Marshall, Offensive Line

Marshall's first pro-level coaching assignment was with the Texans in 2002-05. He also was with the Browns in 2007-08 and joined the Packers staff last season as assistant offensive line coach.

Before and during that time he also coached on the college level at New Mexico State, Colorado, California, North Carolina, Texas A&M, UCLA, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, Murray State, Louisville, Marshall and Plymouth State.

Kevin Patullo, Quarterbacks

Patullo, a Hillsborough, NJ, native who was the Titans' assistant wide receivers coach last year, will be in charge of developing the Jets' quarterbacks along with offensive coordinator Chan Gailey.

Patullo served three years on Gailey's Bills staff from 2010-12 as offensive quality control and assistant wideouts coach and also was on Herm Edwards' Chiefs staff in '07-08.

Marcel Shipp, Running Backs

Shipp coached alongside Bowles as an intern on the Cardinals staff in 2013, then last year was named running backs coach at his alma mater, Massachusetts.

He was a Cardinals RB for seven seasons from 2001-07, was on the Texans' offseason roster in '08, and spent four seasons with the United Football League's Las Vegas Locomotives, three as a player and 2012 as a coach.

Shipp was born in Paterson, NJ, played his high school ball at Passaic Tech in nearby Wayne, and had an outstanding playing career at UMass.

That made me giggle.
