Kevin White could miss season with stress fracture in shin.

We caught a huge break when the Redskins took the OG from Iowa.

If they take Leonard Williams in that spot, as most people expected, we most likely take Kevin White at 6

I'am glad i'am not the GM of the Jets. I was lobbying for the Jets to draft this kid when he fell onto our laps. The least imagined was that Leonard Williams would be taken by us since we had Sheldon and depth at the position.

Amazing how things changed in a matter of seconds. all i can say is, MacCagnan knows his Sh!t

I'm with you. I hated the Williams pick. Nothing against him and I realised he was the top ranked player but he wasn't a position of need IMO. I was thinking LB, WR or o-linemen. Being that the Redskins took the o-linemen, the top LBs were gone I believe and Cooper went to the Raiders that left White to me. It was a no brainer but obviously I was wrong. Can't predict injuries and there's still three games left that Williams will most likely play ALOT in all three. Hopefully he can stay healthy especially since Shelton will be gone many weeks. If not the whole year.

Within limits.
You have to make allowances for BOTH, when you NEED a position player and he happens to be available and more or less equivalent with some other position player you might have had an eye on if not for the NEED factor.

All OTHER things being equal, NEED trumps DESIRE, so long as the NEED part of the equation isn't adversely affecting your assessment of actual "equality" between the two players.

Wow I forgot about Fowler. Two TOP 7 Picks already out for the season. Ouch!

This league is a real war of attrition. Thats half the battle and its pure luck, or bad luck.
Or sloppy scouting.
Many of the OL players come in with old college injuries that were never treated properly at some obscure lower D-I school - or even the bigger schools - because the NCAA doesn't shiv-a-git about a player's future one whit.

Sometimes I chuckle when I hear people talk about the "purity" of college athletics.
I chuckle because the NCAA is ALL about the money - the money they are making off SLAVES.
Even a full scholarship student athlete is basically working for food and shelter.
Medical care is far down the list of things the NCAA cares about, beyond whether or not an injured player is affecting their revenue stream.
So, many college players hit the NFL with untreated partial tears of ligaments and tendons, stress fractures and micro-fractures requiring surgery post-draft.

NFL teams have physicians check players out, but mostly they rely on the Combines physicians to do the extensive medical examinations of players that are invited.
Guess who is paying those Combines doctors?
Of course - the NCAA.

If scouts REALLY did their homework, and if NFL teams ACTUALLY cared enough to bother, their own team physicians would be looking at players' game tape after so-called "minor injuries" that they played through the next week in college.
A good specialist can usually tell if a player is hurt worse than he's letting on, even from watching that player on tape.
Of course NFL teams might have to hire a few more doctors to do that scouting and that costs money too.

Yes, there IS an element of luck involved, but not nearly as big an element as many of us perceive at first glance. More than enough of it is just shitty GM & Player Personnel Director "due diligence" work.

Happens every year. Clowney last year. It's always silly to say "I'm glad we didn't draft..." You never can predict injury, and you can't assume he would have got injured if you drafted him.

Pretty sure the guy who signed off on Milliner should be fired.

Clowney was drafted injured, in case you forgot.
HOU KNEW he had a bad knee & an injury history and drafted him anyway.

I was also against the Williams pick, but no one had a crystal ball to know Richardson would be suspended and White possibly being out for the year. So after all is said, Williams was a good pick. Lets hope he stays healthy and plays at a All-Pro level.

Jets82, AFA, and myself - I think we all agree and made the same points. Thanks for trying to keep the thread on task and contributing great posts.
