Would you be as angry as me if we go with another de?

The New York Jets' new regime, headed by Todd Bowles and Mike Maccagnan, inherits the sixth pick in the draft -- a nice asset to have when you're trying to rebuild.

Their top pre-free agency needs are cornerback, quarterback, wide receiver ... actually, they need a lot of things. You don't finish 4-12 by accident.

You're going to see hundreds of mock drafts over the next four months (not that many in this space, thankfully), and here's the first. Fittingly, it comes from ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr.

His top six:

1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers -- Jameis Winston, QB, Florida State

2. Tennessee Titans -- Marcus Mariota, QB, Oregon

3. Jacksonville Jaguars -- Leonard Williams, DE, USC

4. Oakland Raiders -- Amari Cooper, WR, Alabama

5. Washington Redskins --Randy Gregory, DE, Nebraska

6. New York Jets -- Shane Ray, DE, Missouri

My take: Another defensive player? This would mark six straight years in the first round. Seems crazy, but the Jets do need a speed rusher to complement the inside power of Muhammad Wilkerson and Sheldon Richardson. Quinton Coples is an outside rusher, but he's not a speed player. The question with Ray is his size; he is listed at only 6-foot-2 1/2, 240 pounds -- a tweener. The issue is scheme fit. If Bowles stays with a 3-4 base, it would make Ray an undersized outside linebacker. From the limited amount of tape I've watched on Ray, it looks like he plays a lot as the right end in a four-man line. Don't worry, we'll have plenty of time to debate this -- like, four months.

I don't pay attention to much of what Lord Brylcream says....He changes his board 5 times a day and even got caught changing it during the draft broadcast more than once.

I watch NFLN for the draft to avoid him

Besides, they haven't even played the EW game yet

Depends what the Jets do in free agency. Don't hate the pick and he would help Bowles defense considering he likes to blitz more than Rex. For me I have to see how the Jets approach free agency to better understand if this would be a great pick.

Daniel Jeremiah put this question to five NFL executives, which NFL player does Shane Ray resemble?, and he received the following responses:

Executive No. 1: Von Miller
"He has an outstanding get-off and he's bendy working the edge."

Executive No. 2: Bruce Irvin
"His effort and speed off the edge remind me of Bruce Irvin coming out of West Virginia."

Executive No. 3: Jerry Hughes
"His explosiveness and build remind me of Jerry Hughes."

Executive No. 4: Barkevious Mingo and Von Miller
"He's a mix of Barkevious Mingo and Von Miller but I'll lean more toward Miller. Big-time burst off the edge."

Executive No. 5: DeMarcus Ware
"He's a poor man's DeMarcus Ware. He's not quite as athletic, but he's explosive off the edge and has surprising power."
