@JasonLaCanfora: Jets still have more candidates to speak to, but I hear Doug Marrone's interview with them did not go well. Dan Quinn well positioned now

Just a gut instinct...I think Todd Bowles gets the Jets job. I am intrigued with Reich, but I think he may end up with the Bills.

I'm not a fan of Marrone and hope this is true. I still would like for us to hire a GM first before the HC... only time will tell

Well if it is Quinn they want, I think they will have to wait until the Hawks are out of the playoffs. Should give them time to find a GM. Problem is, I think like 3 teams seem to like Quinn

Hmm for some reason, I am finding it hard to believe that Marrone is not the guy. I don't want him to be or coach but I think signs are pointing to him being the one in my opinion.

Why the hell would anyone leave a Head Coaching job unless they have some kind of knowledge that there is another job available that he will get. I don't buy the nonsense that the reason he left the Bills was because of a contract dispute. If he would have done his job well next year, he would have almost certainly, gotten an extension.

Maybe I am too much of a conspiracy theorist but in my opinion, I think the Jets will land Marrone but we are laying low to avoid any tampering charges. Since Woody is already on the league's radar....

I have no problem with Marrone, and would have no problem if he became the HC. While I think he is still in play, I don't think Woody and the gang would go to this extreme to show no tampering. I think the job is still open. It's just a gut feeling I have on Todd Bowles being the selected candidate. I am intrigued by Reich, but as stated earlier, I think he ends up in Buffalo.

I don't know much about Bowles but I really like what I saw from his defense the last two seasons.

Ego? Was very sure he would get another HC job, and turn 4 million in 8. He probably will.

Just hope it's not with the Jets

I bolded one area of your post, and I don't know how to unbold it. But in any case...

A coach would leave a job if he knew he could collect $4 million from that job whether he works or not, plus whatever he gets on the open market. Even if he gets nothing from another NFL team, he gets $4 million from the Bills to do nothing for a year. And, he would most certainly get a high paying college job next season if he wants one. So, he walked away because he has nothing to lose and everything to gain. He will end up making $7 or $8 million next year, and then $2-$4 million going forward no matter where he lands...and, he will land somewhere. He knows that. It's a good move for him and his family.

Jets may be lying low, or they may be incompetent, or both. Who knows with this franchise?

Plus the new owner would not commit to Marrone for two additional years. rumblings were heard and the guy had an out and took it. Belichick did something similar and how did that turn out? Now the Mehta's of the world are having a field day at MARRONE's . I like Marrone but always favored QUINN for the Jets. The man can flat out coach! After REX good guy routine , a tough guy approach like MARRONE employs can make waves with Jets players and they sure need discipline on the field.

I don't think it's so much because he is leaving Buffalo, I think it's because he's an arrogant, guy, who really hasn't done much, but is acting like he's a top 5 HC.

What did he do to deserve an extension? What has he done to have no one to be between him and the owner? He had an opportunity to turn 4 million into 8. I have no problem with that, I just don't want him with that kind of power here

After coaching at Hofstra the first NFL team to hire him was the 49'ers and they need a HC also.. He also coached for the Fins but they aren't in the hunt staying with Philbin..

My question is:
how do we lock in Quinn NOW?
Can you make an offer before Seattle wins SB?
is it allowed or do you have to do it behind closed doors and still play the interview game?
dont want to lose him by waiting too long
let him pick his own GM

Unless there's been a relatively new rule change that I'm unaware of...then yes.

Both Charlie Weis and Romeo Crennel committed to Notre Dame and Cleveland before the Pats* beat the Eagles in the Superbowl 10 years ago.

Well now I'm not sure

" Many of the interviews involve coaches whose teams have a bye in the first round of the playoffs. NFL rules state that those coaches — on the Patriots, Broncos, Seahawks, and Packers — can interview through Saturday, and then cannot interview again until their team is eliminated from the playoffs."

But can they accept an offer?
