He's actually better against the run than JJ Watt or Suh. Only Harrison (Snacks) has graded out better vs the run the last 2 years than Wilkerson.

However Watt has almost 100 more tackles then Mo so he can't be too bad..

If they can push the majority of his money to 2017 when Brick/Mangold/Marshal/Carpenter come off the books..... that would be fine by me. Give him a healthy SB to keep him living large and amortize it out over 5/6 years. Hopefully Petty plays well enough moving forward to keep the QB position at minimum payroll with quality production in the coming years.

Eh, Jets are making a mess for themselves with the dline, pissing off Mo, likely letting Snacks walk after this year, and Sheldon watching it crumble around him. We'll likely be forced to make him the highest paid dlineman in the league to save face. Well, at least we'll get to enjoy watching them all for 1 year and can say we used the #6 pick to help blow it up! Awesome! I would have just paid the guys we had and kept Mo, Snacks, and Sheldon together long terms...all being under 26 and all...oh well. We likely lose 2 for 1 #6 pick. Great value...trade Mo and Harrison for Williams. He better be stud!

@RichCimini What are the chances Mo Wilkerson's contract gets figured out before opening day? #JetsMail

@RichCimini: Right now, there's not much reason for optimism. The Jets have the leverage, especially after drafting Leonard Williams, and they're slow-playing their hand -- irking Wilkerson in the process. But let's not forget, he's under contract for 2015, so it's not like he's going anywhere. Could he stage a training-camp holdout? I doubt it. He's one of the two or three best players on the team, but the Jets can simply plug Williams into his spot. There would be a drop-off, but Williams isn't some slappy; he was the sixth overall pick. Plus, there's a $30,000-a-day fine for holding out. Clearly, the two sides will have to compromise to get a deal done by opening day. I'm guessing the Jets would sign up for the Cameron Jordan deal (five years, $55 million), but I think Wilkerson is looking for more. Jordan's contract includes $23 million in fully guaranteed money; Wilkerson can get that over the next two years by not signing anything. His 2015 salary ($7 million) is guaranteed, and he'd get another $15 million or so next year with the franchise tag.

Sorry, Mo, but its the majority of Jets fans who dont care how great you've been the last 3 years and dont appreciate a homegrown talent like you. They're already over excited about the freshman girl just drafted and they're ready to cut the prom queen and move on to new potential...even if she might become a pimply, fat mess. Its the minority opinion that feels you should get what you deserve, Mo. I'm sorry, man.

Muhammad Wilkerson thinks he should be rewarded for his hard work

Jets defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson is growing frustrated with contract talks, saying he thinks it’s time for the Jets to step up to the plate and reward him for his four years of hard work.

“I just thought you work hard on the field, do what you got to do on and off the field, and that’s how you’re supposed to get rewarded,” Wilkerson told the New York Daily News. “I guess it takes a long time. This is new to me. But hopefully something will get done soon.”

Wilkerson has played well for the Jets since they took him in the first round of the 2011 NFL draft. He’s set to make $7 million this year, the final year of his rookie contract, but he says he hasn’t decided if he’ll show up to next week’s mandatory minicamp without a new contract.

“I guess we’ll see,” Wilkerson said. “That’s something my agent and I will discuss this weekend.”

The Jets want to see Wilkerson playing for them for many years to come, but so far they haven’t offered to pay him the kind of money he thinks he’s worth. If Wilkerson has to, he’ll play for the $7 million this season. But he’s in no hurry to get to work if he doesn’t get more money.

I guess they take more into consideration than that stat...pst, where's sheldon on that list that everyone says is better than Mo? Nowhere to be seen. Hmmmmmmmm.....

Maybe we shouldnt be so quick to punt on Mo because there's a new hot girl in class we took #6 ...

Is Mo your favorite player by any chance?? You remind me of the Chad lovers that used to point out his completion percentage even though he did it with mostly short passes..:)

He's not. In all honesty, if I had to pick one favorite player on the Jets right now...it would probably be Sheldon. However, I really, really respect how professional Wilkerson has been the last two years on and off the field representing the Jets. I dont think there has been anyone better as a model player for our team over the last 2 disaster seasons, IMO. His personality reminds me very much of Curtis Martin and Shaun Ellis. Isn't loud or obnoxious, just a hard nosed hard working professional. I dont agree with taking advantage of those qualities by trading to under paying him for a guy that resembles KJ from a personality standpoint (Sheldon) or a rookie that we dont know who he is.

I think if you want a classy organization, you keep your classy players like Curtis Martin or Mo Wilkerson...you dont trade them and only hold onto your blowhards loudmouths.

4. Mo brushing up on X's and O's: Even though he skipped the voluntary workouts and organized team activities (OTAs), Muhammad Wilkerson said he has a good grasp of the defensive system being installed by Bowles. He has a copy of the playbook, which is stored on a computer tablet.

"I've sat down with some guys and kind of went over some plays, so I know about the scheme," he said Friday night at his charity bowling event in his hometown, Linden, New Jersey. "I know the things that we're trying to get done. That's not an issue."

Wilkerson was coy about his plans for the mandatory minicamp, Tuesday to Thursday, but he's expected to attend. When he steps on the field, he will assume his old starting position, according to Bowles.

5. Taking the air out of Jordan: Wilkerson wasn't asked about Cameron Jordan's new contract, which prompted a cryptic response on Twitter, but I can tell you this: Wilkerson isn't looking at the Jordan contract and saying, "I want what he got." He wants more.

Jordan signed a five-year, $55 million extensions with the New Orleans Saints. It has $33.5 million in total guarantees, including $23 million fully guaranteed at signing. Methinks Wilkerson is seeking at least $40 million in guarantees.

The Jets may use Jordan's contract in negotiations because there are similarities between the players. Jordan was drafted 24th in 2011, Wilkerson 30th; Jordan has 29 sacks and five forced fumbles, Wilkerson has 24 and seven; Jordan has one Pro Bowl, Wilkerson was second-team All-Pro.

If reading the play book was enough to prepare for an nfl season, all teams would ban practice to avoid injuries.

If thats true it explains why he still doesn't have an extension, and he probably won't get one unless he becomes more reasonable, because if he wants more than Cam Jordan, IMO he is being unreasonable and I suspect Mac feels likewise, and I like Wilkerson, I think most of the stuff you said about him being a good guy who works hard and plays hard is true, but if he's offered the Cam Jordan deal IMO he should take it and be happy about it, and I do think Mac would give him that same deal (contract details below), in fact if I had to guess I would guess a similar deal is already on the table for him.

It's been 3 weeks...starting to think the lingering health issues are playing a part in negotiations. The guy is going to be hurt all year, comes with turf toe and hamstring injuries. Jets are in a bind right now it seems on this deal. Hopefully me posting this gets the deal done today.

is anyone concerned about signing him long term with these two injuries plaguing him? Id still like him locked up. But Im not sure we'll see him at 100% this season, and once we get to 8 losses, if we do, we likely need to shut him down for the remainder of the season and hope he gets to next year's camp at 100%. At the 8 loss mark, we should have Sheldon back by then anyway...fingers crossed....

I get a kick out of all the "blame" that no new long term Wilkerson contract is signed yet ...on the JETS front office /ownership ... I see it differently .... right now ....his agents are probably the biggest cause of delays, as is the "bad advice" I believe he is getting. The Jets front office are playing with a finite salary number, a ceiling set by like signings, creative ways to spread that across a number of seasons and the need to cover about 55-60 other contracts ... His agents seem to be taking the "opera singer" approach to negotiations ..... "mi mi mi me". Maybe its time to start ripping his agents, as part of this discussion.

Mo is either really hurt or he is making sure he gets 100% healthy knowing he "could" be a FA if Jets decide to not use franchise tag next season. I'm good with him resting all PS if needed. Although it is concerning that he has or has had turf toe and hamstring injuries which usually linger.
