Green & White Also Add WR Darius Jennings to the Practice Sqaud
The Jets announced they have waived RB-KR C.J. Spiller and WR-KR Jeremy Ross. In addition to those two moves, the Green & White signed WR Darius Jennings to the practice squad and released WR Mario Alford from the P-squad.
The 5’11”, 200-pound Spiller signed with the Jets Nov. 2 after appearing in two games with the Seahawks. The Clemson product appeared in four games with New York’s AFC representative, returning five kickoffs while averaging 19.1 yards per return. He also appeared in some offensive packages, rushing three times and collecting one reception. For his career, the seventh-year vet has rushed for 3,451 yards and added 1,484 yards receiving.
Ross (6’0”, 215) was on his third stint with the Green & White this season after originally signing with the team in April as a free agent. Ross averaged 20 yards on his six kick returns vs. the Colts. He had 11 kickoff returns this season, averaging 20.4 yards.
Originally signing with the Browns as an undrafted free agent, Jennings started on the team’s practice squad in 2015, played in four games with Cleveland and caught 14 passes. He spent time this season on both the Browns and Bears’ practice squads. Jennings set a University of Virginia record with 1,839 kick return yards and finished fifth all-time with 133 career receptions at UVA.
Alford, a seventh-round pick by the Bengals in 2015, played in one game last year for Cincinnati. The West Virginia product signed to the Jets practice squad on Nov. 16.
