What we have learned is that unless Mendoza injures himself trying to run over linebackers he is a Raider. How he does when not behind a great offensive line is another matter. You never know, he could be the next Marc Wilson.
Dante Moore should spend another year in school. If another franchise wants to trade up to take him at #2 we should oblige them, but no way should we take him at #2. Which makes it certain that we need to find a veteran starter to play the entire season, not a six game bridge.

We keep the QBs that we have. They give us the best chance at drafting right after the best QBs are taken
After watching that game it is obvious that Moore needs to return to Oregon and not enter the draft. I say that not to save him from the Jets but rather because he really needs the experience. Unless some miracle happens to send Mendoza to the jets I think, just my preference, that the Jets need to pass on taking a QB in this draft and fill their QB room from free agency or trade. Use the picks this year to get the cream of the crop from the draft to fill the other needs.
Trouble is we can't just ignore the QB position like we could, say, Safety. We can't surround Brady Cook with super talent and have them standing round glaring at him. I think it would be easier to get Geno from the Raiders (Aiden O'Connell is a perfectly good backup to Mendoza) than it would to prise Mac Jones from the Niners. Trade back, draft Jeremiyah Love (rather than overpay Breece) and use the other high pick on a top wideout. In the second round get a guard, to give Geno and Love a solid line, and a LB. Take Beck in the fourth as our backup/project QB. I wouldn't be averse to Martinez coming back as QB3 because I think he is better than Cook anyway.
Don't trade for Mac Jones or Geno. They wins us 6-8 games. We get the 12th pick next year. Then we have to trade all three 1st round picks to move up for a QB. Glenn also might get another year. Then we still haven't rebuilt the team and still have a shitty coach and can't draft the best QB in 2027. We need to use all of our draft picks or get more by trading down. OL is the only position that we don't need. Every other position we can upgrade at. The only QB to be a bridge that you give a multi year deal to would be Malik Willis. He has some upside and you still can draft a QB and let them compete in 2027. Mac Jones will never be better than he was this year and thats with Shanahan. We also saw what Geno looks like with a Jets like roster. Next year is another wasted year and needs to net us the top pick and get coaching staff fired.
Mendoza played really well behind the 128th ranked O line last year without a single drafted teammate and only one who was an UDFA practice squad player and I believe out of the league.
In the real world the coaching staff are not going to create a squad that loses as many games as possible and gets them fired, at least not deliberately. Even if they did what you wanted the constant hopelessness would have such a corrosive effect on the talented guys we drafted that they would either demand a trade or develop bad attitudes.
Besides, if the coaching staff win eight games next year and things are trending upward, why would you want to sack them?

Why waste a draft pick for a bridge QB. A FA makes much more sense. Cousins,Garoppolo,etc would all be better options, could mentor the young offensive players and would be better options to help groom next years QB.

Highly likely the Jets take Moore at #2 if he is in the draft - unless they have a lot of courage. No one would blame them for taking him there. Even if he flops. Pass on him, risk embarassment.

Which raises the question - how low does Simpson have to fall to take him? I dont think I want him at #16 - but at 33 or at 44 he is very interesting.

At 33 or 44 he might meet Beck coming up! I would say 44 but only because this is a poor QB draft. I was watching a Youtuber this morning saying it is almost unheard of to have the #2 pick and not have at least one blue chip QB available.
GREAT! I'm glad he's staying in. Kid can definitely use another year to fine tool his skills. Just like Arch Manning needs. Mendoza was the only out right, sure fire 1st round QB. If it's ever possible to say that any QB is that! Plus, this decision takes all the pressure off the Jets and us fans, as to what they are going to do now. Now they can just draft the BPA or trade out for a boat load of picks. Don't think there is players out there that a team will do that for in this draft. Jets can draft the BPA in their first 4 picks and maybe then, think about drafting a QB in the 4th round.
They will have to trade up in the 3rd at least, if they want Carson Beck or Trinidad Chambliss. I don't think either one is worthy of that, to be honest. If Beck plays well (win or lose) against Indiana, who knows how much his draft stock will rise. Ty Warren is a mystery for me, is he a projected late 3rd round like Beck or Chambliss or is he worse or better??? This is not the draft to me to draft any QB any earlier then day three. Build the team with the best quality players you can draft, FA, trades and a veteran QB pick up.

Smartest thing he could have done. He is not ready for the next level. Not even close to ready, playing another season will benefit him more than sitting a season.
Jets don't have a third round pick. Latest Tankathon update has us taking Beck at the start of the fourth. There are several QBs to throw a dart at, Allar was slated for last year's first round before he got injured. Smart of Moggie to pick up Zappe before this decision, at least we have someone on the roster who can start next season. I still like the option of asking the Raiders about Geno if Mendoza emerges unscathed from the CFP final, the trick for the Jets is to go after a player that other teams aren't chasing, We know he can play reasonably behind a decent line.
Drafting Beck in the 4th, work perfect for me. Chambliss as well. Warren too! Obviously any QB worthy of a 4th round pick. Lol
