Linebacker situation just got better

What’s even more sad is that it’s more productive than anything we have at OLB right now.

Especially true if you compare him to Khalil Mack who got 4 his first season and followed that up with 15, 11, and 10.5 the next 3 seasons. I don't expect much. I just want a lot. Maybe Attaochu will become that type of player for us. Let's hope. [h=1][/h]

I wouldn’t expect Attaochu to be anywhere near the player Mack is. That’s an unfair expectation. Attaochu was drafted in the 2nd round, got hurt, and didn’t live up to expectations after that. Mack was a top 10 pick who was highly touted coming out of college, and has exceeded expectations.

Regardless, the Jets need a little bit of good luck on this player. The position is the weak link of the D. And if he duplicates even just 6 sacks and manages to stay healthy, that’s a win.

Who said I wanted to be fair ? But, you're right and 6 sacks from him would be terrific. I was only pointing out how high the sack ceiling was and as much as I would like one of our guys to reach it I don't really expect it. Maybe he will be the one to do it. I'm routing for him and in my mind he has a better chance of pulling it off than anyone else on the team.

Thats why I'm glad we didn't give up the future for Mack. His production is going down each year. We weren't Mack away from a SB and neither are the Bears or Raiders. Only team he could help win more are the top 6 teams. The Raiders had one winning season with Mack. I agree with Gruden. Trade him and get something for him.

That was in 2015 as you stated, his best year, he's only racked up 2 since then. I do believe he has the potential to be that good again. I hope he makes a comeback and maybe he will in our system. It sure would be nice. I'm willing to give him the chance for sure.

Well , like they say , it's not all about sacks , but bringing pressure. The pressure part is what needs to improve on this team.

Pressures are nice, and over the course of a game might be effective. But a sack means the QB was not able to get rid of the ball, and produces lost yardage and possible fumbles. Plus, they mean you are actually hitting the QB.
I'll take sacks if I have the choice.

I wish we had signed Nate Orchard.

I'd rather have two RUSH OLB's coming off both edges on obvious passing downs.

Agree. Leonard Williams is a good example. He got pressure on the QB last season but only finished with 2 sacks. Gotta finish more.

After watching him on Hard Knocks he reminded me of Maybin. Seems fast, but he admitted only have one stance to play the pass or run. Seems like that would help the opposing OL. Missed lots of plays in some the games I watched. I have no idea if he is good, but I do know there is nothing special about him.

I agree with all of that. The point I was trying to make , albeit unsuccessfully , was that pressuring the QB is important too , because he won't get the time to sit back and survey the field, and letting the receivers work themselves open. Like the old Stones song goes....You can't always get what you want , but if you try sometimes...YOU GET WHAT YOU NEED.
