That would be awful. I think they should expand there but have their own euro league. I know they tried and failed but maybe this time around its better. Timing is everything.

That's a good idea. But please, no inter-league play. The euro league could be something of a minor league for the NFL.

And perhaps that is what brings about the demise of the league. How would you feel about a Berlin team hoisting the Lombardi? Or watching the Jets play over there at, what, 4 in the morning?

Change is inevitable in all facets of life. Embrace it or become extinct yourself. It won't bring about the demise, it would only serve to add revenue or they would simply pull out.

In that case, I think I'll join the dodo. Berlin with the Lombardi. Ugh.

Kinda makes the first word in "NFL" a little obsolete, to say the least.

I just don't get why the NFL can't be like FIFA. They get all the $ but each country operates their own league and then every so often they have a World Cup.

You make it sound like it's already happened.

It's the "World" part that I have a problem with. Let's keep the NFL in the US.

I'm with you but I think expansion is inevitable so the best way to keep the NFL in the US is by not having international teams join it but instead they play in a league of their own.

The point is the nfl is maxing out in the us,talking in truckloads of money. So to grow their product, they must expand outside of our borders.
Europeans I know think everything they do in sports is superior. Rugby, soccer, cricket and they don't have the taste for hard hits that Americans do. Baseball doesn't do well in Canada, but does in Japan where the culture values disipline, and does well in south America.
I think football doesn't work in south America because of the smaller frames, and expense of equipment. And therefore has to target cities with large tv revenue and a taste for rugby.
Rock and punk got Europe's blood pumping 50 years ago, maybe football can too.
That said, no inter continental play should occur, it's so unfair to have 32 teams invest billions to play for the Lombardi every year, then send 2 of them to London each year. Screw up practice, sleep lag, potential sickness from unfamiliar bacteria, and then make your fan base watch a 7 am or midnight game? It's so messed up for everyone involved. Imagine Oakland fans having to watch a London raider game? Not cool, not a good way to treat your customers.

You talk about each country getting their share. The NFL hasn't yet expanded to other countries. Maybe I'm reading too literally into that as we were just discussing international play.

So you're suggesting that the NFL cares about the welfare of the player above and beyond their profits? Come on. It's about business. And more money for the league equates to more money for the player (employee).
You guys can cite all the problems and inconveniences to your immediate world that you want, but the NFL has made a concerted effort to see this through. It's a small but steady progression towards expansion of the league for more profits. I would bet they would lose no fans by going to Europe and elsewhere. What, you guys are all going to boycott the NFL when they expand? Let's be real.

Hate to tell you, but if read my first sentence, you would find we agree with each other.
