D'Brickashaw Ferguson - T - Jets
The Newark Star-Ledger reports "there are legitimate concerns" about whether LT D’Brickashaw Ferguson is entering his decline stage.

Ferguson hasn’t missed a start in his nine-year career, leading to concerns that his below-average 2014 is a sign of breaking down. The Jets owe Ferguson $39.9 million over the next three years after restructuring his contract in two of the last three offseasons. Ferguson’s future could be in jeopardy if he doesn’t rebound under new OC Chan Gailey.

I think when an older player starts missing time due to injury is a bigger sign of decline and DBrick plays every game. DBrick also hasto cover for poor LG the last few seasons and QB play hasn't been good...I do see the Jets wanting DBrick to restructure next season.

Unfortunately, Brick has been in decline for 3 yrs. if the position wasn't so hard to fill he would be a goner because of his salary.
His legs have slowed down. And while he was never a superlative run blocker in his prime- he's getting exposed now.

Thank you. Brick's supposed "decline" is more fan driven than anything else. He's still a solid LT. The Jets OL has greater concerns at guard and even RT.

I respectfully disagree. A lot.

This is based on an article in Newark Star-Ledger...this entire thread is based on an article in today's paper. I dont understand how the fans led to that article being written and that opinion on Brick.

Not crazy to think he is on the decline. But he can certainly have a good season for us , especially with improved play at the guard. It won't be perfect, but I'm confident Brick will hold his own

The decline has begun. But it's also not nearly the free fall some make it out to be. He's still a solid LT, though no longer elite. It gives the franchise time to find a replacement.

I do think he restructures, though.

it's obviously something that needs to be watched carefully. i don't think it's time to just cut bait, but it would make a lot of sense to consider using a high pick on a future replacement for brick who can start at RT and transition to LT when needed (perhaps flip flop w/ brick)

I think Mac goes stud LT #1 in next years draft

Yup. SHould be some pretty good options to choose from. Looks like it might be a pretty good class for OTs"

Ronnie Stanley, ND
Taylor Decker, OSU
Spenceer Drango, Baylor
Laremy Tunsil, Ole Miss

All appear to be solid 1st round prospects. If we go in that firection, hopefully we can get a guy that is an upgrade over Breno for '16 and eventually replace Brick when the time comes.

Even if he restructures the $14 mil he's due on the Cap next year and 2017, do you think he's going to go less than $11 mil? Even that seems high for what he might be able to give you in both years.

He restructured in 2013... don't know how it will hurt us doing it again in 2016.
Let him play out 2016.... Cut him and save $13 mil and try to bring him back cheap as a depth signing.
Smart guy... he just may decide to retire... his wife is a Dr. after all.
Maybe Woody can convince him to retire next year and save us $14 mil

I agree with Boozer. based on his contract, let him play out his current contract for 15 & 16.. Doubt he would be worth $14MM cap hit in 2017 - hopefully we groom a replacement in the next two years and we get $13MM cap relief in 2017.

Hey Rott.... do you and Lith get together for Jets games out in ChiTown?

I know he's from them parts as well.

Fans read an opinionated article, and then repeat what they've read.

It's commonplace. This writer is entitled to his opinion. But just because he says Brick's deteriorated to the point of grave concern doesn't make him right. It just makes him opinionated.

So his opinion and PFF's opinion are just opinions and likely wrong based on...

His sacks allowed, QB hurries, run blocking, and pass blocking assessments have all gone down by professional scout standards according to the article and PFF...

I guess I wonder why you think everyone is wrong.

Your points that fans read articles and agree with the points in the articles make all fans wrong is interesting...because you must know something the scouts on PFF and people who cover the jets for a living don't know.

I guess I would wonder what information you have all of them don't that make it obvious ferguson is more than an average LT (despite being paid franchise LT money). Can you supply something, maybe anything, that supports your view?

...or maybe everyone else is providing facts and your posts are nothing more than...an opinion...

Thanks for mentioning PFF. They've had him rated as a top 7 tackle (either side) four times in 9 years. He's been to three pro bowls. He's never missed a start in nine years. As someone who watches line play pretty closely, I can tell you that both Mangold and Ferguson were the least of our worries last season.

But keep up the anti-Brick narrative.
