Does that mean perennial All-Pro LT, Trent Williams (Silverback), a current holdout and maybe the best LT in the game, is suddenly available via trade?

Hummmm?

He's 31 so I'm not surrendering a 1st RD Pick, but if they want a conditional 2nd RD Pick provided he stays healthy, clean and on the field, OL's have a longer shelf life than most and I'll make that deal.

He is old and often injured but he is very good. I would not want to make a long term commitment to him with guaranteed money in the out years, but a 3rd that becomes a 2nd if he is healthy does seem right

One note - he has in the last 2 or 3 seasons often played hurt for the Skins. Defining the trigger for the conditional pick will be a challenge

I also wonder whether some limits on his reps would make sense. Like maybe dont run him out there on 99% of the offensive snaps. Give him a possession off now and then? Keep him healthy and show him that the Jets care about that?

don't know if he's available in a trade. depends how far the two sides dig in.

but he's refusing to come to camp and the redskins face the alternative of erick flowers at LT, so they signed penn.

Jeff Howe @jeffphowe

The Redskins are having trade discussions regarding tackle Trent Williams, according to a source. Unclear what type of compensation they'd require in a trade. There's a feeling around the league the Patriots would be involved due to depth issues at the position.
BB is brilliant. Most guys he views as expendable, but when he sees a chance to add this kind of difference maker, especially with his QB being 42, I promise he will be super aggressive here. And I swear, if the Patriots land Trent Williams for anything less than a 1, with the Skins figuring OUR PICKS will be higher than theirs, I'm gonna be absolutely furious.

If we could get him for a third yes, but wouldn't go lower. He's only played 16 games twice in his career. He does play hurt but he's also not a young man anymore. He will also want to renegotiate.

Williams has been great but has dealt with injuries the past 3 years, he wants a new deal, more money, and more guaranteed money.
How much of an upgrade will he really be over Beachum , how much more money will he cost, and how much will injuries factor in over the next 2 -3 years? There is a minimal amount of cap space available and we need to add a CB somehow and some better depth players. The interior of the line was what was bad last year, Carpenter and long were both replaced with quality players. Personally, I think the better solution is to draft early next season. Don't want a repeat of 2015 with great but declining old vets turning into 2016 .
Williams makes sense for a legit contender missing a LT, Houston, NE, maybe even Seattle.
