If things continue the way they have for these two, this has to be their last season.

Mac: he’s been brought in for his scouting expertise but most of he players he’s drafted in the later rounds have not panned out. Only Leo Williams is left from his 2015 draft. And the rest of his drafts aren’t looking to good.

However, his latest draft is showing the most potential so maybe he’s getting it together.

Bowles: I’ve wanted him gone for a while now so I may be biased but I feel like he’s a terrible coach. The team is undisciplined and his defenses have stunk for a while now. He’s supposed to be a defensive genius but any time he’s had success in his tenure it’s because of Fitz and McCown bailing him out.

The jets need to look like a team on the rise for these two to retain their jobs, imo.

From my perspective it’s pretty simple. If a GM and coach manage to last 5 years, the question you ask is this: Is this team going in the right direction or not? The Macc/Bowles duo got somewhat of a “reset” button because it looks like they finally got their franchise QB.

If this team has the arrow pointing upward, and Darnold shows progress, they’ll probably be back. But if the Jets go 4-12, Darnold gets his brains beaten in, and penalties/lack of discipline, and poor clock management doesn’t improve, it could be curtains for both.

I think both Bowles and Macc have some warts, but I’m also less eager to resort to regime change for a team with a 21 year old QB. It’s pretty clear
that things need to get better from here on out, though.

I think Bowles is a solid guy but a mediocre coach. Not terrible, but rex did a lot more with a lot less and sometimes similar talent. I think if all things being equal, rex would have had us in the playoffs with his bump in defensive play. Bowles hasn't had any positive affect on the offense or special teams.

I like mac, I have said on this board since he was hired, the jets were a full 5 year rebuild, and needed to find the QB of course. A lot of his picks have been barely on the roster, but he has built a future the right way. We are approaching year 5 with a real core, and a franchise qb.

I don't think he's the greatest, but he's provided the stability that was desperately needed, and rebuilt the least talented NFL team.

I want mac to stay, and am indifferent to Bowles. But I'd like mac to pick his next coach and see the results.

I think Mac has done a decent job with his personnel decisions when you account for moves in Free Agency. His first round picks - 3 of them are potential Pro Bowlers and one can be a solid starter. That's a good track record. He's maneuvered well in the draft and made some fine trades - Richardson for Kearse and a second for example. The first year, his FA acquisitions had this team in contention for a playoff spot. And he's found some gems like Robby Anderson. On the other hand, he has missed badly on some of his mid round picks. This is common for most teams, but he has missed more than most.

He's made some very good FA additions, and this draft looks like a strong one. He hasn't been perfect, but go back and take a look at Parcell's draft record for example. He missed on a ton of players. It's not an exact science. You can't afford to miss on your first rounders. And second rounders are 50/50. After that, the percentages of players that make it drop off dramatically. I do want to see us find some stars in the middle to late rounds to really fill out this roster.

As far as Bowles is concerned - this year will be interesting. If the team improves, he will have next year to see where we are. If they regress, that could be an issue for him. He knows football, and has a very good coaching staff. I think this team may surprise this year...

Even Albert Einstein needed a brain to be great. At this time there is not one real all-pro on this team. Now it all comes down to having real players on the Jets. lets see some of these guys step it up this year......right now it is all talk & no action. I hope Darnold is it!!!!!! I really do but lets see him play first. Mac will be judged now during this year...of it is a bust he will be gone. TB may go with him too.

Director of Scouting with the Houston Texans on college prospects was suppose to be his gaff, but since his hiring here he has done a horrible job judging talent... Now I know prospect drafting is a team effort and the persuasion from the coaching staff has a loud say on who we eventually take but damn. 2015 only the Big Cat left from that draft class is pathetic and Leonard Williams fell to us not like they were targeting him as the pick...

He seems to have a knack for finding gems in the rookie free agent pool... Robby Anderson is the best of the bunch but one is better than none... His skill set or talent to find a certain position is the offensive line, it is not flashy but for damn sure it is not stable... There is potential there but long term no certainties...

Coaching staff is suppose to be teachers and this year will show if the teachers will be able to graduate last year's draft class into something worth a damn... While this year's draft class may not show up until next season the potential is there, it is up to development of the player and staff to bring them along...

I am always optimistic but the glaring issues are there and I do recognize the issues but living worrying about why this team seems so incompetent to make things whole or complete the real overhaul of this team from front office to coaching staff to the players out on the field time will tell if this organization can get it right...

If Darnold has any sort of "normal qb" time to throw and he really is a leader and potential great QB, then all of these questions will not matter. We need a leader at QB who can make the team rally around him. I bash brady all the time for just being a product of the system but the thing that he does best for me is make everyone on the team believe they are going to win no matter what the score. he does it usually by ripping into everyone. I hope Sam can do the same except not by ripping into people but by being a good guy who people want to win for.

I'm fine with Mack. Not sure about Bowles yet. Him I'd like to see rip into people and I think he does, it's just behind the scenes which is a good thing.

this team is rebuilding right now and it will take a while to do it right. Some teams turn things around in a year but it only lasts a year. Maybe Mack is building this team for a long term run which is what we all dream about. Lets see what happens. It can't happen fast enough for me

belichick built a nucleus of quality players and then every year he let some go and plugged in a few new ones. The big reason why he could do this successfully is because the team wins 13 games a year so who's going to argue with anything he does. And every aging free agent who wants a ring before he retires is happy to play for belichick for cheap for a chance for that ring. so my point is, this team needs to start winning at some point so other players want to come play here. Sam needs to be great and the team around him needs to over achieve. if this happens, Mac and Bowles will be here a while and we'll be fine with it

my take is bowles was & remains in over his head & maccagnan is a JAG..

with that, darnold should not be allowed to save either guy's job.. because of darnold, the jets are no longer relegated to only hire 1st time HCs & GMs.. that, or begging former successful HCs out of retirement.. no.. now legitimate offensive minds all over football will be interested in coaching the kid... legitimate GM candidates will be interested in the chance to build a team around 21 year old on a rookie contract & beyond.. hell, darnold is also going to help attracting elite FA OLmen & WRs..

just some of the reasons why i said after the draft last april, if we hit on darnold being the guy, the rest of that draft was gravy.. LOLz that was a fun night at JFU.. :)

What you say may all be true, but if we are winning even if it's because of Darnold then I don't see anyone getting fired. I especially hope your right about attracting players. back

The biggest thing for now is keeping Sam off his back

I want to see what Bates brings to the offense... The Jets have a solid receiving core with guys that play roles (hopefully) very well.. how does Bates take advantage of that will dictate the season and jobs of the FO & CS IMO... also how well our co-tenant does will have an effect ...if they go from outhouse to penthouse with Superbowl champs in their division the Johnson's won't be able to sell a slow and steady rise to the playoffs by rebuilding
