kind of a mis-leading headline. unless macc was 100% ruling out him playing this year, it's really meaningless to make that headline. macc was much more tempered in his comments and didn't really reveal anything new here. not sure why this would be worthy of its own thread rather than just added to the existing hackenberg thread. now we will have the same discussion in 2 threads...
Agree. More accurate headline would be "Maccagnan says... nothing, really"
G.M. Mike Maccagnan told WEPN-FM in New York on Monday that Hackenberg could play as a rookie.
If he did, you don't have him quoted as saying that.
“I think, with any player coming into the league, there’s definitely a maturation process..."
of course there is. what else could there be?
“I think quarterbacks are probably one of the harder positions to transition into the NFL. I know there’s always a desire and feel to have them go out there and play right away.
no news there.
The reality of it is, though, it’s going to be determined by how he does.
What else would it be determined by? The air quality? The price of tea in China?
And I think my personal opinion is we’ll see where he’s at and how he is in terms of assimilating to our offense and our system.
I guess I would think and hope that everyone involved in making the decision about when he plays would agree with your 'personal opinion' - wouldn't want to decide without seeing where he's at and how he is assimilating.
But like I said, I think it’s a natural maturation process.”
Couldn't agree more. Really couldn't possibly.
Everything else he said is more of the same, more or less indisputable facts that are common to any QB anywhere, ever.
“I think in a perfect world, especially with quarterbacks — some quarterbacks come in and play right away, and some do well, and some struggle, and they go through growing pains,”
It's like that band I was in - people either loved us... or hated us... or thought we were just OK.
“But I think at the end of the day, in a perfect world, you like to give those guys a chance to sort of grow, develop before you have to throw them into the fire.”
Yes, wouldn't want undeveloped immature QB'S thrown in the fire. Or maybe...
Not knocking Macc, I'm a fan thus far - I think it's the nature of the beast that is NY and dealing with the NY media, and he's quite good at it.
