After spending a few years coaching up their offense, first as a consultant and last year as a tight end coach.

So, what are your thoughts on him? I know he sucked as a head coach of the Jets but what are your thoughts of him trying to learn the offensive side of things? I feel like he needs to master the D before learning the offense but I applaud him for trying to learn as much of the game as possible.

He's young so he's probably preparing for his next head coaching gig. This next role will be vital for him. I just can't stand that read and react d that we played here with him. SF has talent though so it will prob work for them.

I think Mangini was to immature when he came to the Jets. Tried to mirror Lil Bill to much. The situation in Cleveland was a lose, lose situation.

Think he is a real smart guy, might turn out to be a decent HC some day

I think he will be a HC again some day just NY was to much for him as a first coach gig not many can do it well. I hope Bowles is the exception and can make it here.

I think he was in over his head as others have said but he will be a HC again IMO

He'll fit right in...

Watch HC Jim Tomsula's introductory presser (youtube) or, even better, his long local TV interview that followed (the big lead)

He makes WRECKS sound like William Buckley.

You just imagine him discussing game plans with a robot like Coach Itsaprocess.

This has the makings of a calamity for the Niners

As usual, point missed,

Watch the Tomsula stuff, please

And tell me how fast Jet fans would be putting up billboards if Bowles sounded like that

As usual you are whining about coaches who are long gone

Back on topic

I didn't really enjoy Mangini as our HC much, but I have to say I enjoyed him as a commentator. He came across as a very intelligent, well spoken, well versed football guy.

He has a history as a defensive coach, but the last couple of years he has been coaching/learning the offensive side of the ball. He's back now as a defensive coordinator.

I suspect that if the 9er's defense improves, and they make a push for the playoffs, Mangini will be doing HC interviews this time next year,

Without checking, I think the guy is still only 43. His real problem with both the Jets and the Browns, was that he was an age group peer of a lot of the players, and he was trying to do this super rigid, disciplinarian persona. He hadn't made his bones, and the players didn't respect him.

It will be interesting to see what kind of persona he is going to put forward for his next gig as HC
