What if it came down to the Jets drafting Oregon QB Marcus Mariota or Missouri Pass Rusher Shane Ray with the 6th pick in next month's draft? For the sake of argument, the Jets HAVE to take one or the other at 6, who is your pick?!

Shane Ray 6'3"/250 is a DE and has never dropped back in coverage as an OLB. We need Fowler, Beasley or even Dupree @ 6 before Ray.

To answer the post question, if we picked Ray over Mariota, the Jets would be crucified by almost everyone. If some team pony-up's a ton of picks, that might change things, but I'd have to go Mariota @ 6 here.

Go Jets...Cyborg

To me it's Mariota by a mile. Marita is a college spread QB that Gaily could mold into his offense. If it takes 2 years to develop a franchise qb, you wait 2 years. Franchise QBS make you a regular playoff team where anything can happen once you get in the tournament. Ray is a debatable fit for our system that may take a year or so to fully integrated in out defense; and in the end, all you get is a clay Mathews type player. A franchise QB is worth more than a beast OLB. Even if his ceiling is Matt Ryan, you get your Matt Ryan. I think if your patient, Gaily can mold Mariota. It's why he wanted to come back to the NFL.

I like Ray, he has a chance to be a real impact player off the edge, but there are questions about his size and ability to play OLB in the 3-4, questions he'll probably answer in the affirmative, but its enough to make me lean Mariota.
