I wasn’t able to listen to it but I heard Greenberg say that he is hearing the Jets are seriously looking to trade up to get Mariota. Can anyone else fill me in on what else was said?

Making a move for Mariota just seems to make sense based on what the Jets said their intentions are this off-season…..being aggressive this off-season to put a team out on the field that can compete today as well as being aggressive in building a team for the future. We have the luxury right now with Fitz and Geno on the roster to take a QB (Mariota) and let him sit, learn, and develop properly for the future. Obviously having a QB is a major piece in building for the future. My thoughts are who cares if he has to sit a year and who cares if we give up an abundance of picks if our regime feels Mariota will develop into a franchise QB and be our QB for the next decade plus. I understand we have holes to fill on this team but there is no bigger hole to fill than QB in this league and it’s a must in order to win. No QB is perfect but we must take a chance on someone at some point and make the sacrifice.

Hopefully they don't start their drafting by giving up a lot to get a guy that may flop in the NFL. You give up a lot for a no risk, slam dunk player. Mariota is not even close to that player.

Marcus Mariota - QB - Player
TFY Draft Insider Tony Pauline reports the Browns are the "front runners" to trade up and acquire Oregon QB Marcus Mariota.
This, of course, assumes the Bucs select Jameis Winston at No. 1 overall. According to Pauline, who is one of the kings of the pre-draft process, the Titans asked for the Browns Nos. 12 and 19 selections in the first round, as well as Cleveland's second-round pick in order to move up to No. 2 overall. The Browns turned them down. That's not an out-of-hand asking price from the Titans.

If Maccagnan feels Mariota will have the appropriate atmosphere surrounding him with the right coaching and the right tuteledge to groom him to turn into a franchise QB in 2-3 years, then yes, i'll be more than fine with this decision.

The problem is, will the fan base be patient enough to wait 2-3 years for this to occur. I feel the Jets need to be competitive in order to make sure the locker room is a successful place to help a young QB evolve and mature into the leader of this franchise. This will appease the fan base primarily. Yet, if the team goes 3-13, then 2-14, then the reigns are handed to Marcus and we go 6-10, many (unfortunately i'll admit it I will too) will be calling for a new regime.

Though, IMHO, I really feel the Jets will try everything and anything to acquire Philip Rivers at any cost to lead a team that has been assembled to win now, not 3-4 years from 2015.
