Bowles was a very well thought of Defensive mind coming out of Arizona. If he doesn't have a QB, he is not going to win one without one. We will see,

Defense is obsolete.

It kills me to say that, I'm a traditionalist, but unless you have an all-time great defense, it no longer matters.

Another thing it kills me to say is that Bill Belichick, the ultimate defensive coach, figured that out a long time ago.

The NFL is basically arena football now, only with the best players in the world.

Agreed, its about accepting where and what the league is now.

I would imagine it kills Bill Belichick that defense has become so irrelevant, this is one of the great defensive minds ever, but even he accepted it.

I understand. And I would imagine whoever replaces Bowles, whenever that happens, will soon have detractors calling for his ouster.

As for the offensive/defensive argument, part of what I like about what the Jets have done is that they have created an identity. This is a team that has over the past 20+ years put defense first. That may not be the direction the league is going, but you have to decide whether you are going to remain true to the identity you have created, or if you are going to chase trends. I'm not sure there is a right answer, and both ideas have some merits.

Okay, so Higher an Offensive Coach (Pref: an ex QB) and you feel he or she will lead us to the Super Bowl. I agree, its time to build thru the draft on the Offensive side. I don't see your point where Frank Reich is going to be a savoir as a Coach

After That Belichick Realized Again That Defense still Wins Championships. He Went Out And Signed Some Cornerbacks, Revis And Browner And Went Out And Won Another Superbowl With A Last Second Int By His Defense.

This Year, While Neither Team Played Much Defense For Most Of The Game, It Was The Strip Sack Of Brady That Won The Game For The Eagles. Another Great
Defensive Play.

We cannot go year in or year out with bad Coaching. Every time we get a new Coach the Hoopla begins. After 3-4 years the Coach is awful and we should have taken so & so. Its a broken record here. We bring in a new GM and Coach and they tear down everything that was built up the last 3-4 years because that was not who they drafted. They let guys leave thru FA (Snacks) and its the Coach's fault or ownership.

With all the names that swirled around the Jets rumor mill regarding coaches if Bowles was fired Reich's name never came up. As well as Reichs name wasn't on any ones radar until McDaniels pulled out of Indy and even then the signing was a surprise move. So just deductive reasoning for me. I could be wrong but that's how I see it...

thanks man.. for me, this comes down to our franchise needs a president of football operations.. the idea that the johnson's, in this era of football, refuse to budge from the completely dated defense 1st & often 2nd mentally..

all the lion's share of the talent has been on the defensive side of the ball, all but a hot minute or two since ryan & continuing with bowles.. & hey, you know what, if the jets defense during this run was a top defense, that was consistently carrying the team kicking & screaming to 9-7/10-6, i would at least hear out the argument.. because their would be in fact, one to have..

but this is just another example of the ass backward approach to football, from the very top of our franchise..

I don't believe this is an ass backward approach. Its more of a GM/Scouting system that's not on the same page. I agree, with all the Drafts being Defense, Defense, Defense we should have a 2nd to none top rated "D". Its time to shift gears.
