Today the Chicago rb has announced the bears don't intend to re sign him.

Add him to last years team, and the Jets win the super bowl. Cut Cromartie and give him 5-6mil.

i could post something snarky but there's no need for that.. i will say i strongly disagree though..

forte has been a quality back who might have enough tread on his tires for one more good year..

that said, i think it would be a horrible use of 5-6 million for us..

ivory's replacement will be in the draft, IMO..

His abilities as a receiver out of the backfield are intriguing. He's kind of like a Powell/Ivory combo, rushing stats similar to Ivory with receiving skills equal to or better than Powell.

I would love Forte on this team. He's a bit old but he is an x-factor. When he's on the field, you don't know whether it's a run or a pass. With Ivory, it was a giveaway although he was used a lot more in that capacity than i ever thought he would.

I see him being dependable, double threat, more left in the tank than lt had, with a similar affect on the team.

You'd be wrong. With ivory not playing hurt, nobody could stop us, when ivory sucked,ie hurt, the game changed.

I do like Forte, but for the 5-6 million to sign him I would rather sign Snacks. I'm not taking nothing away from Forte, he is a good back.

What if we sign n trade mo, cut cro to pay Forte and save 3 million, and sign snacks.

I want to address the backfield with youth. 30 y/o RB's don't typically have much left. I understand that we're reasonably close to competing for a deep run, but i'd rather re-sign as many of our own as possible.

I'd rather not overpay for a declining player, when in all likelihood we could pay Powell half as much and get production as good or better than Forte.

When the wheels come off on a RB, the decline is sharp and swift. For ever LT that has a good year late, there are 10 Frank Gores that look terrible.

Oh god no.

Please get younger and retain Powell. Just my opinion, but i feel when CJ Spiller gets cut by the Saints, he'll be a Jet on $2-3 mil 1 year "prove it" deal.

It will be interesting with Ivory if we keep him. I think he'll demand a lot and frankly, RBs like him with his style just dont last long.

I think that's the kind if deal Forte gets if he goes to a 'win now' team as a roleplayer - if he wants 5-6MM, I think he's got to go to a lesser team and try to be the workhorse back again.

ironically, he's being let go by a "lesser team.."

i don't see any team paying an already 30 year old forte 5-6 million next season..

...a lesser team that's staying with their QB and has already drafted/groomed his successor at RB. One that needs to use resources on a QB might look at a hold the fort type of back (bad pun intended). But I think it's more likely that the market isn't there for him, and he takes a low-guarantee short term contract.

NYJETSDAN16 got me curious, so i did a little research last night on spiiller's possible availability..

from what i read, if the saints cut him before june 1st, the salary cap hit will be immediate.. if they cut him after june 1st, the cap hit will be pushed somewhere into the future.. so chances are the saints won't make a decision on him until sometime in training camp..

spiller doesn't turn 29 until august, BTW & i would be interested in a kind of deal dan is talking about.. the added bonus is spiller had by far his best NFL season in gaily's offense..

Personally not a fan of spiller, not that it matters. It's also a benefit to have your starters on the team before camp.

If Forte wants to win, and his market establishes lower in the 3-4 range, or even less, he makes complete sense. He's getting older, but is not done by any means, and had always been more reliable than ivory, while being near the tops on rushing. He w won't need to be a feature back, just needs some good runs when his number is called, leading to a balanced offensive threat, forcing defenses to stay home a little longer. I see him being productive over the next 2.5 years.
