ESPN's Todd McShay released his latest NFL Mock Draft on Thursday and projects that the New York Jets will select Memphis quarterback Paxton Lynch with the No. 20 overall pick.

Lynch, 22, is the third quarterback projected to be drafted in the first round by McShay.

In his junior season, Lynch threw for 3,778 yards and 28 touchdowns with only four interceptions for Memphis.

Lynch earned first team All-ACC honors and was a finalist for the Manning Award last season.

I seriously doubt it... Three teams still with need and could be targeting the top 3 QBs in Browns (even with signing of RG3), LA Rams, and Broncos... Browns likely to take Wentz who will need time to develop... Rams could take Goff and let him translate to this level even tho he is pro ready... Broncos would be good fit for Paxton Lynch where the Broncos have their bridge quarterback in Sanchez for at least one year...

The three quarterbacks that the Jets so far have shown a lot of interest in are mid round selections... There was some interest in Connor Cook but think the team will pass, since they have shown a lot of interest in Dak Prescott who was just arrested for DUI so his stock might of taken a hit which would help the Jets to take him later than the projected fourth round he was ranked going... Some talk about the Jets interest in Christian Hackenberg... Some talk of North Carolina State Jacoby Brissett like Prescott had a successful career and has the upside to develop into a good competitor in the right system...

I've been saying all along that I think QB in this draft is a huge priority, much bigger than most fans think right now. Front office is playing coy and not letting on with how badly they are targeting one of the top guys.

My only question is if they are targeting one of the big 3 in Wentz, Goff, or Lynch, or if they are looking at a 2nd tier guy (Brissett, Jones, Cook, Prescott, etc).

When all the dust settles, we will sign Fitz to a cap-friendly deal and he will be the bridge for the new guy (or Petty) in 2017.

Two things point to this: 1) They would not be offering Fitz back-up money if they thought he could be our franchise guy for the next 5 years. They are looking at him as a stop-gap. 2) We aren't really players in the RG3, Kaepernick, Glennon pursuit. We need a young guy to compete with Petty and if it isn't coming from one of the above mentioned names, it will come from this draft.

I am almost certain we take a QB in April and most likely we spend a high pick on one. If Paxton Lynch is available at 20 then that would almost certainly be the pick.

**Side note: 2017 QB class looks really poor. Watson and Kaaya are legit but there is garbage behind them. Jets won't be drafting high enough to make a run at either of these guys.

Excellent post brother.

I also feel the Jets need to select a QB in this draft. The talent pool is up there and in '17, at PD eluded to is god awful.
Every one here knows how i feel about Bryce Petty, but you cannot place every egg into this basket as the team would be doing a diservice to themselves, especially if Petty flops.

I have no issue with selecting (or even trading up in the 1st round) to select a QB. Heck, thats been our most dire need for over 40 years.

  • Chad Kelly, Ole Miss
  • Joshua Dobbs, Tennessee
  • Gunner Kiel, Cincinnati
  • Wes Lunt, Illinois
  • Mitch Leidner, Minnesota

are right now Top 5 next year and anyone of the Top 3 will be 1st round selections and worthy of the pick... Lunt & Leidner are 2nd rounders that need to prove themselves and watch out they will... Every year there is one or two that are above the rest and Kelly & Dobbs already have shined in big moments...

as for Brad Kaaya & Malik Watson both are ranked Free Agents right now outside the QB Top 15 prospects for 2017, fyi... now preseason rankings mean squat, expect both to crack the QB Top 10 by mid season... Watson a Jr. could jump to the draft but Kaaya is being listed as a 2018 prospect...

I'm sorry as I'm honestly trying not to be mean here but this post is one of the more misinformed I've read in a long time. Deshaun Watson and Brad Kaaya are the top 2 QB's in next year's draft if they come out. By a mile.

Leidner isn't even sniffing the 2nd round, let alone the 1st.

I do agree with you that there will be late risers, but we'll wait and see on that.
