We all know that most of the local NY beat writers for the Jets are clowns. Mehta is in my opinion the worst - with one hyperbole after another. Cannizzaro is overly dramatic too. But the article Mehta wrote about how the Jets shouldn't wreck Sam Darnold was irresponsible journalism at its worst.
He said that one GM told him that Darnold wants to get out of here as soon as he can. WTF is that? First of all, how does some GM of another team even know what is going on inside this kid's head, and second, why would Darnold be thinking that way after one season? He doesn't even know the new playbook and already he's leaving the organization? C'mon, give me a break. Mehta writes that shit to stir the pot, piss off the fans, and promote this same old Jets culture that he thinks sells. In actuality, Mehta looks like a complete idiot - and is detested by long time fans like myself because he perpetuates a culture of losing with his irresponsible journalism. I hope the fans and the players ignore this idiot, because he has no idea what he is talking about most of the time.
Last point - the papers are hyping the supposed Jets dysfunction, how no one wants to come here, and so on. It's all bullshit. This whole power struggle thing is nonsense. So the GM and HC didn't see eye to eye. They fired Maccagnan. That's sports, it happens. Move on, we'll find a new GM and get this thing going. I was not in favor of the Gase hiring because his track record as a HC was mediocre. But if he can coach Darnold up, and turn him into the QB we all think he can be, and Jets win a championship, he'll be one of my favorite Jet coaches of all time. I may be one of the few people that believes firing Maccagnan now was perfect timing. No disruption to free agency, no disruption to the draft, and we're done. This team is much better on paper this year than it was last year, and so, now we move in a different direction with a lot of young talent on the roster. I'm good with it.
If I was a GM candidate, I actually think this is a great opportunity. Franchise QB, very talented defense, some weapons on offense, good Special Teams. There is a really good foundation to build on from here. This team is not far away at all..
