Read the article in the Daily News. Don't know how true this is, but according to the article, Revis has lost interest in playing, and has not dedicated himself to maintaining his football conditioning as a result.

This is unbelievable. I think a refund is in order.

Have to question how valid this is...Apparently, Mehta was in the locker room with revis yesterday and didn't even confront him and ask him for his comments. Its probably the agent who Revis is suing. I think this is poor journalism and I wouldn't fault Revis if he IK's Mehta.

Mehta is such a hack.... He see's a the obvious rights a story with un-named sources.... Here is a typical Mehta type story

Mo Wilkerson's ankle still a problem

After speaking to someone close to the Jets organization it's clear Mo's ankle is not 100%.... The team has been trying to keep him on the field, as well as give him a game off to see if the ankle will respond to that. My source tells me it could be a degenerative bone issue and the Jets are going top have to look at that ankle in the off-season and get a specialist involved. Mo clearly can play as is but he is not the Mo that earned his bizzilion dollar contract. He lacks the explosive first step we are accustomed too and is clearly shying away from some play. Also due to this lingering ankle injury Mo is getting overpowered at the point of contact by some of the bigger Guards and tackles.... etc etc,,

Get my point.. See a circumstance, create a BS narrative that actually could have some validity and wala Hot story the Daily News and editiors love.... and the funny part is every so often his stories are proven accurate and I guarantee it was blind luck, hack writing.....

I swear next year I am gonna start a weekly thread - My manish Mehta Story of the week. And at the end of the year we can tally up which BS hack writer(me or Mehta) had more accurate stories

Honestly, I don't think printing this rumor was the right thing to do, even if the person really said it. It is one thing to question performance, but to question effort is really getting to the heart of what it means to be an athlete and competitor. Revis is one of THE great players at his position in NFL history. It takes a lot of chutzpah to question his effort, IMO, even though his performance has been crappy as hell.

Jets May Not Even Give Revis Opportunity To Accept Pay Cut & Just Release Him

Jets May Not Even Give Revis Opportunity To Accept Pay Cut & Just Release Him

Jason Cole of B/R, citing a Jets’ source, reports that the team may not even offer CB Darrelle Revis the opportunity to accept a pay cut next year and could instead release him outright.

According to Cole, Jets owner Woody Johnson feels “betrayed” by Revis after he pushed really hard for them to re-sign Revis. However, Revis hasn’t come close to living up to expectations and Cole says that people previously warned Johnson about signing Revis to this kind of contract.

Yesterday, Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News spoke to a Revis’“confidant” who said that the Jets’ cornerback no longer wants to play anymore.

“He’s done,” the confidant told Mehta. “If he had his way, he’d be done right now. He doesn’t want to play anymore. He’s made a lot of money.

Mehta’s source believes “he tanked it” this season for the Jets.

Revis’ play has come under a lot scrutiny this season, given that he’s been beaten a lot and admitted that his body could be breaking down.

Revis previously explained that while his body is breaking down to some degree, he can still play in the NFL.

“Yeah, I am. I mean, not in a bad way. I can still play,” Revis said, smiling. “It’s just, I’m breaking down. I’m 31. How many corners are 31 right now in the league? The league’s getting younger. I know [Vikings cornerback Terence] Newman’s still playing [at 38], which is impressive. But I don’t know how he’s doing it.
Revis added that retirement isn’t a consideration for him right now and his focus remains on taking care of his body and helping the Jets win games.

“I’m not thinking about retirement at this moment,” said Revis. “I’ve just got to continue to take care of my body. Some of the past injuries, they linger. They linger.”

Revis stands to make $15 million in 2017, which includes a $2 million roster bonus on the second day of the league year, so the Jets would almost certainly make a decision on his future by then.

Revis, 31, is a former first-round pick of the Jets back in 2007. He’s currently in the second year of his five-year, $70 million contract that includes $39 million guaranteed and stands to make base salaries of $17 million (2016), $13 million (2017), and $10 million (2018-2019) over the remainder of the contract.

According to OverTheCap.com, Revis still has $6 million of his 2017 salary guaranteed, which means releasing would free up $7,333,333 in available cap space while creating $8 million in dead money. However, those figures could improve to $9 million in available cap space while creating $6,333,333 in dead money if he was designated as a post-June 1 release.

This season, Revis has appeared in 10 games for the Jets and recorded 43 tackles, no interceptions and two pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 92 cornerback out of 120 qualifying players.

ESPN: Jets CB Darrelle Revis on possibility of taking pay cut: 'We'll see'

ESPN: Jets CB Darrelle Revis on possibility of taking pay cut: 'We'll see'

[ESPN]18181044[/ESPN]

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Darrelle Revis acknowledged the obvious Thursday, saying it has been a "down year" for him.
His play isn't the only thing going down. His salary will, too.

Revis is to make $15 million next year, including a $2 million roster bonus on the second day of the league year in early March. There's no chance the New York Jets will pay the bonus or the remaining $13 million to an aging cornerback -- he'll be 32 next season -- so the March payout will force the sides to the bargaining table for a renegotiation.

Asked if he's willing to take a pay cut, Revis said, "We'll see. We'll see what happens next year. We'll see. Lot of things going on. We'll see. We'll figure it out."

The Jets also could cut him, which I believe is the likely outcome. They would still owe him $6 million -- the last chunk of the $39 million guarantee in his five-year contract -- but from a salary-cap standpoint, they would clear $9.3 million of his $15.3 million cap charge.

There's one thing that won't happen: Revis, 31, won't retire. If he calls it quits, he would surrender his $6 million guarantee. Financially, it would be better to get cut than to walk away.

"For me, personally, it's a down year," he said. "It's a down year for the team. It's a down year for me, personally, but I've been in this situation before. It's not the year for us. We've got these last couple of games this month of December to actually come out with positives at the end of the season, then focus on the offseason. For me, personally, my focus is on the future of this football club."

Revis signed a five-year, $70 million contract in 2015, but he hasn't performed up to expectations. He hasn't recorded an interception since Week 16 of last season.

Asked if he wants to play beyond this year, Revis said, "I'm under contract until 2018." Technically, it's 2019, but it's a moot point. He won't see the back end of the contract.

Just cut him. He doesn't want to play anymore. He held us hostage so many times that I'm glad to see him go.

FYI, I would read this too! You should do it! Jets-themed creative writing. If Mehta can do it, anyone can.

Quote from Revis:

"Will I be back? That's a great question. My thing would be this: Do the New York Jets want to treat my situation with class or no class? With me being one of the best players in the history of this franchise, do they want me to retire here or not retire here?"

Class?? Hey asshole did you show class when you held the Jets hostage multiple times with your contract demands?? Answer is NO you didn't and I hope they cut your sorry broken down ass on Monday January 2nd, 2017.

Revis has a bruised ego right now. He's trying to come to terms with the fact that this game has passed him by, and he's resorting to the "yeah, but look at my resume" response.

These comments aren't going to help him.
