So much for the theory that he'd come back to haunt us if "properly used". Joe Klecko nailed this one: looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane.

Sad sad sad. He had all the potential in the world. Tbh, moving him to linebacker messed him up. He was a good rookie but the reports on him being lazy at the time we drafted him was dead on.

When your drafted team is under manned at your position, and they still cut you, you're in bad shape.

To be fair, this in all likelihood has more to do withe Dolphins being in a horrendous cap position than an indictment of his time there.

Dolphins are in the worst cap position of any NFL team at the moment and Coples was due 7+ million with zero dead money if cut.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him snatched up quickly.

I know their cap situation is not all on Tanny but that Tannenhill deal will bite him in the butt

Rex will kick the tires for sure.

I don't think that will happen. Rex has learned that you can't make chicken salad out of that pile of chicken shit.
But this also further testimony to my opinion that you don't draft a "slash" i.e. - (predominantly) defensive lineman and try to turn him into a linebacker/ edge rusher unless you've seen him play that position well in college. That said, Coples couldn't play either position.

I like to see the Raiders make a run at signing Quinton Coples. He would be a nice fit. He would be nice insurance for Mario Edwards- health questions . ( does a lot of things similar- Can play De on run downs , slide inside to Dt on passing downs) ). Not to mention could team up with Edwards to form nice duo at Dt rushing the Qb .

The Raiders have their three run stuffer Dt. Dan Williams 6'2 325 , Justin Ellis 6'1 335 , and Leon Orr 6'5 325 - they think kid is going to be big time player for them. The Raiders right now use Denico Autry 6'5 265-270 and Mario Edwards 6'3 285 rushing the passer( Dt) when they are in their nickel defense. The problem is Autry is a little light , and can be gashed in the running game.( playing there). Coples would hold up much better there against the run.

coples for depth on your DL is fine & all because the raiders certainly can get him on the cheap.. but the bottom line is he's a big ferocious dog that will not hunt.. but i'm sure you know as much..

side note.. as a raider fan what's your interest in the jets/JFU?? you're certainly not a troll.. hell, you didn't even puff your chest out after your boys destroyed the jets last season.. respect..

6.5 sacks Coples playing his natural De his rookie year is quite impressive. The Jets just had too much talent on the defense line, and it's understandable why they try to get him to play Olb ( can't hold that against him as he isn't an Olb or wasn't as good as Jets other defense lineman ).

The Raiders don't need him to be a monster sack guy, but to keep offense line honest so K Mack can do his thing.( Mario Edwards emergence last year was big reason why K Mack had as big year last year).

I'm a die hard Raider fan who lives in the New York Area ( Mahopac) , with family members who are Jet season ticket holders. So it's only natural that I like to spend sometime talking football with Jet fans.( unlike family members who might like to punch my lights out)

he's a physical specimen with legitimate football talent.. he just doesn't seem to be that interested in maximizing his prime years in the NFL making big money.. translation, coples seems content to cruise through his NFL career..

edit: thanks for the back story..
