unless you believe hackenberg is a superstar in waiting, i'm not following your logic..

drafting an unknown with only one year is very risky ie; Mark Sanchez even tho the rookie wage scale is set to draft Trubisky his salary is already player friendly being a first round selection... fifth year team option is in favor of the player especially quarterback (could exceed $22 M for 5th year)... are we sure we want to pay $22 M over 4 years for an unknown? who isn't likely to start until maybe year 3?

rather select someone in the first round that will suit up day one and contribute now...

[h=1]Report: Browns considering Mitch Trubisky with No. 1 pick[/h] Posted by Zac Jackson on March 2, 2017, 4:27 PM EDT

The Browns are “strongly considering” taking former North Carolina quarterback Mitch Trubisky with the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft, Cleveland.com reported Thursday.

Trubisky grew up in the Cleveland area and is one of the top quarterbacks in this year’s draft class. He gave up his final college season to enter this year’s draft despite being North Carolina’s starter for just one season.

Trubisky measuring in at a shade over 6-foot-2 on Thursday was news for a couple of reasons. Browns Coach Hue Jackson said in his Thursday talk with reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine that he believes being 6-foot-2 is an important threshold for NFL quarterbacks, and earlier in the week NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock said he had heard whispers that Trubisky would be closer to 6-foot-1 than Trubisky’s listed height of 6-foot-3 at North Carolina.

Jackson told reporters the Browns haven’t finalized any decisions or their rankings of this year’s quarterbacks.

“Obviously [Trubisky] is a tremendous player,” Jackson said Thursday. “There are a lot of good players in this draft. It’s just so early for us to determine exactly where we are. All those things will be discussed and thrown around as we continue to move forward.”

Jackson said he’s aware that Trubisky has been quoted as saying he’d love to play for the Browns and said his hometown roots will be discussed when the Browns meet with Trubisky throughout the process.

“Some guys play better when they’re at home, some guys don’t,” Jackson said. “We’d have to know all those things. And we’ll do the digging on all these guys that way.”

So this changes something if Trubisky gets taken first. Maybe they try to trade back into the top ten and send us the additional picks for our #6. That would be ideal.

My logic is Hackenberg has to get the shot this year. He has a bigger upside and next years draft is deeper at QB...Also with QB's that have a bigger upside.

I agree. We know nothing about Hackenberg apart from a few quotes. Truth is, if he was any good and was lighting it up he would have found the field especially since we had such horrid qb play. Regardless, he deserves playing time

Call me crazy if you please...But I like what I see from Deshaun Watson? He just seems like such an intelligent kid? Seems to be very cerebral in his approach, but also happens to be tremendously gifted athletically. I think this kid could be the next Steve McNair. Trubisky I have serious reservations about? Seems like he didn't start long enough in college.

MJ I originally had some interest in Watson if the Jets traded down toward the end of the first round. Since the combine, just can't draft him.

As you said, kid seems very smart, has good mobility, and by all reports is a very nice person, and will interview well. MAJOR red flag on him is he has an arm velocity of 49. That's horrific. I don't believe there are any starting QB's in the NFL right now with an arm velocity under 50, with the possible exception of Mike Glennon. We'll see how long Glennon is going to be a starter. He's just not going to be able to make all the throws in the NFL with out a lot of them coming back the other way.

Well aside from being from my neck of the woods, I'm a Canes fan, and have probably seen most of Kaaya's games. Also being a fan, and having rooted for the kid makes it a bit tough being objective, but i'll try.

Actually prefer Kaaya over Watson as an NFL player. Played in a hybrid pro-style system. In today's NFL that is huge. Like Watson seems to be a really nice kid. Excellent play action passer.

Has a stronger arm then Watson, but it is still questionable if it's an NFL arm. Off the top of my head I think his arm velocity was 53 at the combine. Not real strong. Also has some accuracy issues in 12+ yard passes.

In all honesty I wouldn't touch any QB in this year's draft in the first round. Only two QB's I would be interested in later rounds would be Mahomes, lot of flaws but a cannon for an arm. Think his arm velocity was 60. That's smoking. Perhaps Trubisky in a later round. (he won't get out of top 10) Just reminds me of Mark Sanchez to much.

I would just see what the Jets have in Petty and Hack this season. If they both go bust, next year's draft seems to be at least 3 deep in excellent QB prospects.

Not tanking the season, but making sure the Jets aren't throwing away an NFL starter with out seeing what he can do.

Just my opinion

i would love to see hackenberg & petty take all of the regular season snaps..

i don't believe for a nanosecond bowles will allow that to happen without being forced into it though..
