I am so happy right now as a Jets fan.... There aren't words to describe it. Mo earned the money... Deserved the money and is a good guy, good teammate and good leader....... We may be deep at DL but today showed what organization we are....... IMO....

And for the record long term I much rather pay MO than sign Fitz... so if giving Mo this contract prevents us from signing Fitz I am ok with that

Mo knew he would never get this kind of money as a FA. I'm glad he stayed with the Jets. He is a better human than Sheldon too.

This has to mean we've decided to move on from Fitzpatrick, right?

There's no way we can pay Fitzpatrick now too, right?

Glad to see this deal finally got done! Mo definitely earned a payday and he didn't break our back with the contract (took a bargain compared to some of these idiotic deals that are being doled out). I think this probably puts us in a better position to sign Fitz, the tag for Mo was quite large and counted all against this years cap. If they structured the deal correctly it should definitely decrease the cap hit for this season.

It lowered Mo's cap hit by 5.7 million for this year. The franchise tag was included as 100% guaranteed money in our cap calculations. Now he gets his signing bonus but it's spread out over the length of the contract.

first off, congratulations to wilkerson on getting his big boy contract.. nice to see a hometown kid who carries himself like a true professional/teammate/gentleman.. he earned every penny of his guaranteed money..

also congratulations to mac as well for getting a deal done that if structured well should help free up some much needed cap space to help get fitzpatrick back in the fold as well..

we'll see soon enough..... tomorrow works for me.. :)

oh i'm well aware.. i've found small but very vocal pockets of jet fans online that think re-signing fitzpatrick at a starting QB rate next season is absolute crazy talk because we can get the same or better numbers out of what's his face at a fraction of the cost..

That is crazy talk. Fitz having same or better numbers is crazy talk as well. Signing Mo was a great move because I don't think we can trust Sheldon.

LOLz let's not hijack wilkerson's signing thread..

you know how to find me in fitzpatrick's thread if you choose..

& i don't think we can trust richardson either, BTW..

actually, a "what to do with richardson" thread makes pretty good sense now.. in my eyes anyway.....

I also think Mac knows Sheldon is gonna be worse than Revis to sign.

Out of nowhere. I don't think this changes anything with Fitz.

Just my opinion, but I feel this move will create a domino effect in the coming days that Fitz and our GM had probably agreed upon behind closed doors, let me elaborate:

*It would have looked insulting to Mo had the Jets signed Fitz before him to a block buster deal.

*Fitz could have signed with Denver before Elway settled on trading for Mark Sanchez. IMHO, Fitz knows his best chance to succeed is here in NY where the team has him with high regards and respect. The Money probably was the same amount.

*Once Fitz re-signs, i wouldn't be shocked in any way that Geno Smith will either ask to be released or asked to be traded. I know many have Geno pegged as having no brains (like my opinion of him), but he sees the writing on the wall very clearly after Fitz signs his contract (which is imminent now): The selections of Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg aren't picks that Macagnan will just be ok with just cutting from the roster to keep a player left from the old regime. Mike knows what he has in Geno. If he had confidence in him, these two respective players would not have been drafted.

The re-signing of Mo WIlkerson speaks volumes on how this regime is being ran: Close to the vest with no outsiders allowed under any circumstance. The more media outlets state that no contract can be reached, the more i speculate that one is on there way.
The more the media tries to sell me that Bryce Petty isnt ready to be the back up this season without him actually taking a pre season snap leads me to believe they know nothing on what the Jets truly have planned for this 2016 campaign.

Remember that we also have our first round pick to sign. Does anyone know if his slotted amount has been factored into the cap numbers?

Kudos to both sides for getting this done.
The defense is looking nasty.
But the greatest team in NFL history never won a 0-0 tie (this ain't soccer).
One down, one to go.
Now let's get our quarterback back.

No it is not counted yet. Before the Mo deal the Jets had a bit over 3 M in cap space. According to OTC Lee will cost in the area of 1.8 million.
