Depending on how teams view the value of Muhammad Wilkerson, his stock surely took a hit after the Patriots trade with the Cardinals involving edge rusher Chandler Jones and guard Jonathan Cooper... Lets figure the Titans are the team that has been projected thus far, Tennessee offers their 33rd overall 2nd Round selection and their 113th 4th round via the Eagles straight up for Wilkerson the Jets should take this and move on...

Jets 7 Round Mock Draft:

20th: Offensive Tackle Jason Spriggs from Indiana
33rd: Wide Receiver Tyler Boyd from Pittsburgh
51st: Offensive Tackle John Theus from Georgia
83rd: Defensive End/Outside Linebacker Bronson Kaufusi from Brigham Young
113th: Corner Eric Murray, Minnesota
118th: Inside linebacker Scooby Wright III, Arizona
157th: Quarterback Jacoby Brissett, NC State
241st: Running back Peyton Barber, Auburn

Analysis of Draft Pick by Pick:

  • Acquiring that additional second round allows the Jets to take the best player available and fill a need by taking stock rising offensive tackle from Indiana in Jason Spriggs... Spriggs will fill a need right away to replace either Breno Giacomini or Brick Ferguson...

  • With trading Wilkerson that third round pick will give a much needed receiver that has been ideally compared to Brandon Marshall... The Jets last year moved Decker into more of a slot receiver opening a need for another wide out to lineup with Marshall on the outside and Boyd could be that guy... Little need of transition to this level he should be able to step in day one and contribute...

  • That additional pick also makes this pick more viable for the Jets acquire another tackle who also like Spriggs could contribute right away... He has the versatility to lineup on either side but from day one stand point, Theus would be better suited as a right tackle...

  • Jets may have found their pass rusher, in edge rusher Lorenzo Mauldin who proved he can be a force so the Jets could be looking for that ideal Calvin Pace replacement and that is what Bronson Kaufusi brings stability as a three down player...

  • Jets secondary is currently intact but after next season they will have some tough decisions to make and possibly drafting a developmental prospect that has the foundation to become a solid contributor could be gotten here in the fourth round... Eric Murray has all the intangibles to be a shut down corner... Murray will need one or two years to find his nitch, but well worth the pick...

  • Filling another need in the fourth grabbing a side line to side line tackling machine that is a liability in coverage is a luxury this late in the draft...

  • Quarterback situations are always problematic, so the Jets grabbing another prospect to develop along side last year's fourth round selection Bryce Petty is the best option at this point in the draft... Brissett has value and could be a solid option moving forward...

  • With the final pick the Jets could waste this pick... Running back Peyton Barber is no wasted pick, this pick could bring much needed value and allow Barber to compete with newly signed Dri Archer for that fourth running back spot and return specialist role...

Draft Focus:

Every week as we draw closer to the draft other roster moves either release/cuts, trades and signings will give a better understanding on what the draft focus what may be...

I'd like Conklin over Spriggs. I've seen Spriggs consistently rated as the 4th or 5th best tackle in this draft behind Decker, Conklin and the kid from Notre Dame (forget his name). Would Spriggs be a reach there? I guess if they really liked him I'd be OK with it. We need an infusion of youth on the o-line for sure.

Conklin will be gone Top 15 & Spriggs has overtaken Decker as the next best versatile tackle, they have him as high as 18th but I do believe he will be there for us at 20th... Of course by chance Conklin landed in our lap he would be the pick but right now I have Spriggs there...

This is my Offensive Tackle rankings (Top 10):

  1. Laremy Tunsil
  2. Ronnie Stanley
  3. Jack Conklin
  4. Jason Spriggs
  5. Taylor Decker
  6. Germain Ifedi
  7. Shon Coleman
  8. Jerald Hawkins
  9. La'Raven Clark
  10. John Theus
If the Jets play it correctly they could seize 2 of the Top 10 Offensive Tackles in this draft...

Here is another option that Tennessee could throw in Zach Mettenberger into the trade, since we currently have a quarterback quandry - Mettenberger could be an option to our solution...

Oh man, I forgot about Tunsil. Not like we'd have any chance at him. This is a very solid draft class for tackles. Both offensive and defensive tackles.

I love your draft. I hope we can get better value for Wilkerson, but I love your draft. All really big producers on the college level. Boyd is very underrated in this draft. So is Brissett.

With that said, if Treadwell slips to 20 then I hope he is the pick.

Realistic BPA for me goes something like this:

1) Paxton Lynch
2) Laquan Treadwell
3) Conklin/Decker

I like your draft. A few thoughts...

If they trade Mo, the money is there to sign the tackle from the Steelers(Beachem?) if he's still out there. That leaves an opportunity to take an ILB (the kid from Temple?). I love the Murray pick. Another late round QB to keep in mind is Brandon Allen from Arkansas.

if you noticed I picked up an MLB from Arizona pick 118th Scooby Wright III has bigger upside then Matakevich from Temple...

as for Beachum doubt he will be available, but maybe a veteran guard could be an option opening the door for a draft day trade moving Brian Winters because they figure at least one more year of Jarvis Harrison development before they give him a shot to start...

I think Boyd is going to end up being the best WR in this entire draft class.

It will be close between Treadwell and Boyd but yes I also believe long term Boyd is the best receiver of this draft class...

For one year instead of dealing with Geno while Petty gets the much developmental practice reps as the number 2...
Mettenberger for one or two year(s) then he is trade bait after one or a free agent after two, might be worth the gamble...

I think the point is a trade like this would provide many options to make the team younger (and better).
