The New York Jets and Atlanta Falcons are planning on interviewing Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator Todd Bowles for a second time, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

The Jets and Falcons are two of five teams still looking for a head coach.

Bowles in still under contract with the Cardinals, having signed a contract extension in November through the 2017 season. The 51-year-old just completed his second season as the team's defensive coordinator and has also spent time on the staffs of the Dolphins, Cowboys, Browns, Jets, and Packers.

• Bills make it official, announce Rex Ryan as new coach

Bowles played eight seasons in the NFL, mostly notably with the Washington Redskins, retiring after the 1993 season.

Over the first nine games of this season, the Cardinals defense was ranked No. 11 (No. 3 in rushing, No. 30 in passing), but finished No. 24 overall. Over the last six games, the defense gave up at least 390 yards four times. Arizona ranked fifth in scoring defense, allowing only 18.7 points a game.

In fairness to Bowles, the Cardinals' defense was on the field an awful lot once Palmer went down, and especially after Stanton went down.

Pretty impressive that they finished Fifth in points allowed. After all, that's what it's all about.

Carolina Panthers coordinator Sean McDermott to interview for NY Jets head coaching job

Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Sean McDermott is scheduled to interview with the New York Jets about their head-coaching vacancy Wednesday, according to two league sources.

McDermott has guided top-10 defenses each of the past three seasons, and interviewed with Washington last year before Jay Gruden was hired there.

The Jets are looking for a replacement for Rex Ryan, who was announced as Buffalo’s new coach Monday after being fired this month following six seasons in New York.

The Jets have already talked to several candidates, including two other coordinators from NFC playoff teams – Seattle’s Dan Quinn and Arizona’s Todd Bowles, who will interview with New York a second time this week, according to reports.

The Jets reportedly are set to hire Houston Texans college scouting director Mike Maccagnan as general manager.

McDermott, 40, was the Sporting News’ Coordinator of the Year in 2013 after the Panthers finished second behind Seattle in total defense and scoring defense.

McDermott makes around $1.25 million annually after receiving a raise after last season. He’s signed with Carolina through 2015, according to a league source.

McDermott, a former Philadelphia assistant, oversaw a big improvement this season by the Panthers’ defense, which finished 10th in total defense after falling as low as 27th after a Week 7 loss at Green Bay.

The Panthers allowed 339.8 yards a game, despite losing Pro Bowl defensive end Greg Hardy, who missed the final 15 games while awaiting his pending jury trial on domestic violence charges.

Carolina struggled without Hardy initially, allowing 37 points or more five times in an eight-game span.

But changes in the secondary helped spark a turnaround as the Panthers closed the regular season on a four-game winning streak to win the NFC South for the second year in a row.

The Panthers ranked fifth in total defense, sixth in pass defense and second in points allowed over the final four weeks after cutting veteran cornerback Antoine Cason, benching safety Thomas DeCoud and starting rookies Bene’ Benwikere and Tre Boston in their spots.

Quinn probably expected that Rex would get the Atlanta job.
With Rex having landed in Buffalo, I'm sure Arthur Blank has offered Quinn the Falcons job, and Quinn probably views that as a more attractive opportunity. He probably called Woody this morning to say "thanks, but no thanks".

So, now we are on to interviewing assistants to assistants.

Another unqualified head coach with no head coaching experience. More on-the-job training. More failure.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

LOL...It's called reading between the lines.

You've had a boner for Quinn since the day you heard Woody was talking to him. Now, you'll have a boner for whatever unknown assistant that the Jets decide to hire to be the next coach.

Does Pfizer dye your Viagra green especially for you, or do you dip it in your Kool Aid after you get it?

Remember....for an erection lasting more than four hours, seek immediate medical attention.

According to the AJC, Bowles is the leading candidate for the Falcons' job. That is clearly the most appealing opening - best QB situation.
