Every year I put this out before the draft. And never do any of the names get called by the Jets <sigh>. Nevertheless, here I go again.
QB:
Favorite: Jacoby Brissett - Here's a guy that can be had in the 4th round that I think is every bit as good as the top tier. I was also a fan of Russell Wilson and Mike Glennon coming out and that turned out ok. NC State has something going with their pipeline and Brissett has the best upside of the trio.
Wildcard: Paxton Lynch - Best physical tools in the draft but is weak with the chalk talk. Everyone knows QB is a cerebral position in the NFL. You need to be extremely bright. It's hard to tell if Paxton will translate with the mental part. But man does he have the tools and I would be ok if we rolled the dice on him.
RB:
Favorite: None. Weak year for RB. Elliot is the class of the bunch but I'm not sure he's the right fit for the Jets offense. Watch out for the 17 class of RB's. Will rival the best of all time. Fournette, Dalvin Cook, Nick Chubb, and Christian McCaffrey are all slotted to be first rounders.
TE:
Favorite: Ben Braunecker - Harvard kid that looks like a mid-round steal. The idea of Fitz to Bronk (nickname in college) for a harvard to harvard hook-up is too interesting to pass on. I think there's an excellent chance he's on the Jets radar.
WR:
Favorite: Laquan Treadwell - One of my favorite players in this draft. He's a football player, someone who loves contact and plays angry. Anquan Boldin 2.0.
Wildcard: Pharoh Cooper - Slot WR from South Carolina that drops because of measurables but what was impossible to stop in college. Would not be upset at all if we took him and slid Decker back wide.
PS- I also like Tyler Boyd and would be more than ok with his selection.
OL:
Favorite: Cody Whitehair - Another football player that will guarantee to make your team better. Not as as sexy as some of the others, but this guy is a winner.
LB:
Favorite: Shaq Lawson - Dominated college and is still just learning. High character guy who will only get better. Big enough to put his hand in the dirt but more than fast enough to be a terror as a 3-4 OLB. Would be a really good pick if he's on the board.
Wildcard: Myles Jack - Slipping because of knee concerns. Worth the risk at #20.
DB:
I'm jaded but have had enough of putting endless premium resources in that position. Revis, Pryor, Skrine, Gilchrist, and Williams make a nice group. If we get anything out of McDougle or Milliner then that will be something. Have to play these guys to give them a chance though.
My Mock FWIW:
1) Laquan Treadwell (WR, Miss)
2) Cody Whitehair/Germaine Ifedi (whichever is on the board)
3) Jordan Jenkins (LB, UGA)
4) Jacoby Brissett (QB, NC State)
7) Ben Braunecker (TE, Harvard) *might be a stretch he drops that far but we could move up to the 5th to get him
7) Nate Sudfeld (QB, Indiana)
