My only knock on what was otherwise a great day

Hard to be too critical because we are a much better team now, so take this with a grain of salt.

But still, my only criticism is we added A LOT of 30+ talent to this roster: Marshall, Revis, Harris (re-sign), and now rumored Cro. These guys can still play, clearly, but we don't have a QB to make a serious run. And by the time we develop someone, these guys will be pushing 35.

So, ya, we just became an 8-8 to 10-6 type of team but neither Geno Smith or Ryan Fitzpatrick are taking us to the super bowl.

Were our moves too "win now"? Would you have rather gone younger with our big FA pick ups? What do you guys think?

I think we have a pretty good mix of youth and vets and the win now mentality is always going to be there, especially in this town.

Now, the QB situation is another issue that I wish was a quick fix.

I like the signings, but believe suh at 20 million makes a bigger impact than revis at 17m, and is 4 years younger.
The money had to be spent, and these guys can be moved in 2 or 3 years, so we are getting impact players that fit our coaches strength, the opposite of idzik trying to get fa's who are not even in football this year.

I understand where your coming from but these moves are easily explainable.

First you have Marshall, he is the best WR out there period in the FA besides Dez and Demarious and they were franchised day one. Plus it appears Cobb had no intentions on leaving GB, Macklin seemed dead set on KC cause of the coach, T. Smith maybe the Jets didn't even inquire but it appears he and the 49ers were locked as well. So in the long run this Marshall deal may have been the Jets only move for a WR. Plus Marshall is still one of the best WR in the league and has 4-5 years left in him. The Jets can still draft a WR in the later rounds so there is the youth and our two rookies from last year.

Revis is the best CB in FA and arguably still the best in the NFL. Plus they signed a 25 yrs old Skrine. All the other CB who knows what happened there but we did very well here. Icing on the cake is if Cro comes also, we are sick in the secondary now. Plus we still have the youth at CB with Milliner, Williams and Mcdougle.

We signed a 25 yrs old o-linemen so there is youth there. They will also go in the draft here I'm guessing.

Harris they could have done better and still can. I believe they will go LB in the first round unless Mariota is there.

Powell resigning he is only 26 yrs old. I believe they will also draft a RB in the later rounds.

QB is our issue and hopefully Mariota fixes that issue. Jets had no control over this Eagles and Rams trade I'm guessing. If Mariota is gone by #6 then we draft a QB in the second or third round, sign a vet and let Geno fight it out with whomever and may the best man win.

Note: Jets overall did a great job and have a beautiful mix of vets in their prime and youth.

Marshall worked relentlessly with the younger Bears WR on studying game films, training, Routes and getting your body and mind in football shape. The Bears will miss him.

I think the jets secondary was lacking vet leadership last year. I think these moves make Milliner (if still on the roster), Pryor, and Williams better and let's remember Skrine is only 25 and Gilchrist is 26, still a lot they can learn from 30 year old Revis and 31 year old cromartie.

I think Marshall is a 2 year stop gap.

I think the team made the moves that were available to them. Do we need a QB? ABSOLUTELY!!! But there were really none to be had at this point. You could argue they should have made a push for Foles but the Eagles are making some crazy moves and no one knows what they had in mind or if they were even willing to deal with us.

The team is much improved now, we still have a gaping hole but we will have to address that when we can.

Bowles primary defense is the nickel defense, so he needed 3 CBs and 2 really good back ups for depth...he has them now. I agree, we have a ton of needs, and are filling based on BPA in free agency; unfortunate, none of the best players in free agency are QBs, to your point.

Wait, we signed Gilchrist also? When did that happen?

From what I've read the only thing I've seen is they are initiating discussions with him. So at this point he is a person of interest but we don't have him in the fold and he may choose to go in another direction. We shall see LOL

Revis

http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2015/01/darrelle_revis_used_to_come_to_blows_with_jets_teammates_when_they_screwed_up_at_practice_per_report.html

Darrelle Revis, as a Jets player, fought teammates when they screwed up at practice, per report

Darrelle Revis, the Jets' former star cornerback, returns to the NFL playoffs Saturday afternoon, when his Patriots host the Ravens.

Even deep into Revis's first season in New England, it still feels odd to see him wearing a Patriots uniform, though he has fit in quite well there.

Revis hasn't been in the postseason in four years, since the Jets made their second of two straight runs to the AFC Championship Game, following the 2010 season. He has two career playoff interceptions -- one each in his first two playoff games, in 2009, at the Bengals in a wild card game, and then at the Chargers in the divisional round.

On Friday, Jackie MacMullan published a fascinating piece about Revis on ESPNBoston.com. You can check it out here. It's worth your time, as most stories written by MacMullan are.

The story addressed all the details that make Revis one of the NFL's best cornerbacks. MacMullan caught up with retired NFL safety Jim Leonhard, who played for the Jets from 2009-11, to gather a few interesting anecdotes about Revis.

Here's one of them, which highlights Revis's burning competitiveness:

"When I was with the Jets, we'd have a big game coming up and the [national] broadcasters were watching our practice on Fridays," Leonhard said. "We'd run a play and if Darrelle didn't feel like the receiver gave him the look a certain way that he wanted it, he'd be in that receiver's face. He would demand he got it right, and if he didn't, they'd come to blows sometimes.
"It was critical in his mind to get it right during the week so when we got out there in a game he wasn't seeing a route for the first time live."

The most entertaining afternoons, Leonhard said, were when Braylon Edwards or Santonio Holmes would burn Revis for the occasional big gain.

"If they got him early in practice, it was going to be a long day for them," Leonhard said, "because he was set on beating them up the rest of practice."

Former Jets coach Rex Ryan used to talk a lot about how Revis ran a receiver's route for him, because Revis studied so much film that he could predict the receiver's route based on the pre-snap look the offense showed.

In the part of her story that touches on Revis's film-studying acumen, MacMullan has Leonhard address this very topic.

Here's MacMullan again:

"It's interesting," Leonhard said. "I've seen him do this so many times. We're in formation, the ball is snapped and he's running the route before the receiver does. I'd watch him sometimes and think, 'He's guessing,' but he's never wrong."
Revis capitalizes on nuances of his opponent: Some receivers lean ever so slightly in one direction when their number is called; others crouch a little lower when they are preparing to run a route underneath and some show their hand by assuming one stance for a run play and a slight variation for a pass play.

Eight years into his NFL career, after spending the first six with the Jets and last year in Tampa Bay, Revis shows no signs of slowing down. Pro Football Focus rated him as the league's fourth-best overall corner this season, including fourth in coverage.

Revis was a first-team All-Pro selection by the Associated Press, along with Seattle's Richard Sherman. Revis was also a first-team All-Pro from 2009-11 with the Jets.

Speaking of the Jets, might Revis return to them after this season, when he could hit free agency for the second straight year? Revis isn't saying where he wants to play next season. He is technically under contract with the Patriots for 2015, but his salary cap figure is insanely high ($25 million) for the final year of his deal.

Jets owner Woody Johnson had a loose-lips moment recently, when he said he would "love" for Revis to return to the Jets. It would be quite a coup, considering the Jets used a first-round draft pick acquired in the Revis-to-Tampa Bay trade to select Defensive Rookie of the Year Sheldon Richardson.

Revis's next move -- staying with the Patriots or hitting free agency -- is a couple months away. For now, he is continuing to pursue his first ever trip to the Super Bowl, with his own unique style.

Like it or not, our biggest off-season move BY FAR is . . . . . . . . . . . TODD BOWLES.

If this guy ends up being in over his head, it won't matter who we sign because they'll likely be gone by the time we have another regime change in 2-3 years. But if this guy's the real deal, then this year can help lay a solid foundation moving forward.

Let's see what he can do with "real talent", and if he succeeds it will be on the FO to continue to supply it. You can argue Rex showed what he was capable of the first few years, but the talent level continued to drop, and consequently so did the winning percentage.

I don't think "win now" always equates with "suffer later". This year should offer the opportunity to see what this guy can do, and assuming he steps up it shouldn't be too difficult to keep moving in the positive direction . . .
