New York Jets free-agency overview: QB

Under contract: Sam Darnold, James Morgan, Mike White

UFA: Joe Flacco

Game plan: The organization's goal is to find a long-term solution. Is it Darnold? A high draft pick? Deshaun Watson? The answer isn't in free agency, although they will need a veteran backup to replace Flacco, an old-school, dropback passer who doesn't fit the new scheme. C.J. Beathard (49ers) could be a low-cost option because he spent the past four years with LaFleur, who is installing a San Francisco-like system that puts a premium on movement skills in the pocket.

In the unlikely event that the Cowboys trade for Russell Wilson - discussed a bit by some talking heads - would the Jets, should the Jets, could the Jets sign Dak as a free agent?

they are addressing the quarterback situation either be Sam Darnold, or find the heir apparent from the rookie class if they sign someone it will be backup role from free agency...

No. IMO he he would be just good enough to lose a first round playoff game with. His teams have been loaded with talent, but how far has he taken them on his own ability?
He would be an expensive trinket, but not the critical cog in the machine. (sorry for the mixed metaphor)

If we end up drafting Zach Wilson and Trading Darnold, I wouldn't be opposed to signing Alex Smith as a stop-gap mentor.
