New York Jets Offensive Mindset NFL Draft

starting with the big boys up front. outside Mekhi Becton, George Fant, Laken Tomlinson and Alijah Vera Tucker these four are expected to be a part of the Jets offensive line group next season. questions on Connor McGovern still linger. he is under contract but his cap hit could make him a draft day trade. now he is respected by his coaches and peers and did play better than it appeared. bringing back the "Mullet" Dan Feeney also suggests that the team has solid depth at all key positions. but by the chance the team does move one or both of their picks they could take an unexpected rising talent that at one time was considered a top day two selection but now being mocked inside the Top 25. His flexibility since the senior bowl a career guard taking snaps at center & continued to hone that ability even during his schools' Pro Day. There are some notion that a late day two selection could also spell the end of the veteran center if they bring in competition that may need a year to fully develop that role. but from all accounts the team wants to build more of a nasty mindset from inside the trenches which last year it lacked especially when their rookie signal caller took some cheap shots, there was no fight from them led by the center.

Tyler Conklin and CJ Uzomah are leading examples of what style tight end the Jets want and need. Prospects like Trey McBride, Charlie Kolar and Trae Barry are among the leaders on the Jets big board even local prospect from Ohio State Jeremy Ruckert could be a draft day target. current under contract players like Ryan Griffin and Brandon Dillon also bring that same style, of a blocking tight end that can catch. the question now remains how many tight ends make the roster. Is Trevon Wesco and Ken Yeboah competing for roster spots? Is Wesco competing for the fullback role against Nick Bawden who was re-signed on a one year deal? Yeboah a rookie free agent last year, does the team feel he is capable or needs another year to develop on the practice squad?

running back position is a curious one. re-signing Tevin Coleman shows the team's flexibility and role style need. La'Mical Perine looks he could be a draft trade asset, while Ty Johnson who looked like a big role player has been noted out of favor with the coaching staff also could be a trade asset come this April. Michael Carter is our lead back, Austin Walter seems to be a solid role player with Tevin Coleman that makes three, and it is expected that the team continues to draft on day 3 another role player to add to the backfield. the team did re-sign their fullback but doesn't guarantee they don't add a potential draft pick if the opportunity presents itself.

at Quarterback, the three are back together for another season. Zach Wilson is the pre-emptive starter. re-signing veteran Joe Flacco who have play incentives in his contract if injury or covid concerns the starter. restricted free agent tender offered and signed by Mike White.

the main question is how many, and who are going to be the receivers in 2022. so far Zach Wilson has been noted flying to all his receivers homes to work out with them. Yes, he has worked out with Denzel Mims, he has been seen and documented working out with Corey Davis. he has been seen and documented working out with Braxton Berrios. he has been noted working out with Jeff Smith. he has been noted and documented working out with Elijah Moore. end of the day Elijah Moore, Corey Davis and Braxton Berrios are considered the core. Denzel Mims is a work in progress probably his last chance to prove his draft selection. Jeff Smith has a shot from the outside in to make the cut. so, how many receiver prospects do the Jets draft and where are they targeting said players. can give you the top three prospects that the team is noted liking: Garrett Wilson, Jameson Williams and Jahan Dotson all bring a different variable to what the team could do with them. there are some noted late day two and early day three prospects that the team is infatuated with: Romeo Doubs, Christian Watson, Bo Melton, Skyy Moore, John Metchie III, and Velus Jones Jr.

so the outlook for the team is not dire, but the draft does not have many NEEDs, but a lot of role players maybe one or two starters that will solidify the offense.

Great recap.
If he is available with one of the round 2 and later picks, I'd take a shot at the currently injured Metchie. He seems to have the highest upside (when healthy) of any of the tier 2 receivers mentioned.
If they are going with a WR with a first round pick, my priority is size. The Smurfs were in the Run-and-Shoot offense and that is so last century. (But now that I think of it, the two new tight ends check off that size box, so what do I know?)

+1 to Metchie...a day 3 steal.
+1 to the new TE's; they are big target weapons for Zach.

Jets got to get this right to help Wilson advancing at QB. Cant eff around half assing it like last year. Im giving Jets 2 years to fix this awful team Mike and Idzik built on dart board drafting and weed smokin. Jets are doing great so far ,but needs to help Zach advance his skills like we seen at times last year. We seen flashes and maybe if a few more passes caught I think he would have made the jump.

i agree. he would have made a jump if his receivers were able to make a play on "a" ball that wasn't put right into their hand; and they dropped a ton of them too.

Having said that, Zach's receiving core is infinitely better already! the 2 TE signings are absolute ballers at the "security blanket position.
they have size, speed, hands, and can run after the catch as playmakers.

i also expect the WR unit, even if it stays just as it is, to make a major jump this year because they will be doing more playing and less thinking in their second year in the system. But we have seen that JD is seeking to upgrade.
