I think the IDL will be JFM & Quinnen so drafting possibly a Winfrey in the second or Matthew Butler in the 4th is an option. Also believe as much as we feel safety is a FA need that will be a draft pick, fans all in on Jalen Pitre from Baylor but Kerby Joseph from Illinois makes more sense. Also feel Alontae Taylor from Tennessee also a better fit. Rookie contracts make more sense for our year two rebuild move. Can always sign a FA next off season that if need be that top dog on offense and defense if need be.

They want to bring back Foley, like Berrios they have given them fair offers just depends on the players if they can get more money and that is what they want they will leave. But the culture that this team is building, if they didn't buy in year one then they are not the right fit for us. I really think Ertz is an option on a one maybe two year deal and believe he has that left in the tank. Drafting one maybe two guys while signing another rookie free agent is in the cards.

Becton is at that top threshold of weight, he is working on getting leaner with more muscle which would make him a better left tackle. He has been working on footwork and leverage with Duke his trainer. They are also working on how to communicate better with slide protections. I am telling you Mekhi is going to come back and he is going to show he is the better player. Fant played well but if Mekhi comes back more agile with his power sorry George back to right tackle.

Speaking from my OL experience, the one thing that amazes me about Becton is that he can shut down the outside speed rush. He does it mainly from the pure length of his kick slide. When in shape, he is as athletic as one could possibly hope for his size. But that slide...DAMN! Fant is a better pure athlete, but Becton has the combination of size and athleticism - and pure length.

Mike Hughes is a very strong player, handles short area quickness well and strong enough to get physical at the line of scrimmage. He has a knack for forcing fumbles on tackles. He is a run defender first, tackles well in space and has the speed along with quickness to be a danger in the return game. He is a tough dude who won't back down from any challenge. He has the closing burst with proper angles in pursuit. Sound familiar?

the team has a plan they will build through the draft and add key veterans on short term deals that are cost effective. High character players only, they won't risk bringing a player that has off the field issues. you can look at the National Senior Bowl roster to better get an idea of the talent they are looking at to fit this roster.

Just read that joint philosophy of Saleh-Douglas. Short term contracts, developing the younger players, and good character.

put it this way building the offensive line is imperative BUT you can not spend first round picks for every position on the offensive line eventually it will cost too much. so expect them to target veteran options to step in as starters and draft one or two players this year. there is an option that they take one in the first round but they also like a couple of guys in day two of the draft, that can play immediately or be a role player with future potential as a starter.

In theory that is a good approach, except for one thing. It takes several years of working together for an offensive line to become an effective, cohesive unit. By bring in short term veterans, the new faces disrupt the flow of that growth.
It is one of the reasons I felt the early AFL teams would eventually be good. I used an example the typical 6'4", 265 pound guard(linemen were lighter then) from a major program during the bidding wars. If he signed with the NFL team, he would sit on the bench for a few prime learning years. The same type of player signing with an AFL team was starting right away and quickly getting game experience. Look at the AFL powerhouses that began to dominate the Super Bowls III and immediately after. Their O-lines had been working together for years and it showed. Eventually the post merger common draft levelled that competitive advantage.
I'd rather get the O-line as together as possible early on, and let them gain experience together.
