Quick question...

With football over here (soccer... [emoji2]) and player moves are subject to a new contract and player agreement.

I've read a lot about player trades etc and it sounds like if a team wants to trade someone, they don't get a choice, they go!

Is that the case?

They go or retire unless the bargained for a complete no trade clause in their contract or a list of only certain teams they can be traded to.

Thanks. Could never see that happening over here, the EU would have a field day interfering with that rule... 😀

In the nfl,the teams trade the contracts. Very few players have enough power to sign a full no trade clause.

In baseball, a larger number of players have a partial no trade clause, where a list of teams are named in the contract that the player could be traded to without his input.

The teams pay these guys a hefty price for their"rights" and own the contract, therefore can trade their asset, aka "contract"

In this case, bad teams wouldn't be able to acquire good players in an attempt to get better.

Yep... This is the big problem with soccer in general... The big teams have all the power and don't want to share.

There is far too much power for the players too...

The big 2 clubs in Scotland scream that they don't get any competition from other clubs, but if the do, the bid a pittance for the clubs best players (knowing that the players want to go).

I prefer the American way of doing it...

👍

Yea I'm not a big fan of the eu, I do wish that there was no salary cap, it's turning into this league where you have decide who your star is going to be because you can't pay more than one or two, and Damn the rest of the guys.

I do understand its purpose in the nfl because they have too many teams, in order to make money by being in more markets.

Aside from the money, and this is of course an issue, the real thing is to keep ALL teams competitive. In that powerfull big market teams can't stock pile all the talent . Which I guess comes back to the money again.

As much as I hate losing good players to the cap, it does keep the league interesting.
