Well, I dont think many people know Hackenberg, because people want him to stay in college 2 more years...if he wants to be the #1 overall pick...he should. next year it probably comes between him and cook.

However, for me, it's not close...and Im a big 10 guy. But Watch cook -

His balls float, he lacks arm strength, but he makes great decisions and knows where to go with the ball. If I was wrong, look at how many of his balls arent tight spirals and they tend to sail...and look how much air is under his throws. Its not a dart, laser, from point A to point B, because he doesnt have that kind of arm. These are similar traits of Mich St QBs Cousins and Hoyer. Cook has a lot of the same traits, high football IQ and good decision making, average arm. Also watch his "happy feet," how he bounces while waiting to throw ratrher than taking his steps, planting, and driving.

Hackenberg has an NFL arm, NFL brain, and comes from an NFl system (the one the Patriots are currently running, actually). Watch his throwing motion, footwork, and how he plants and drives

From a mechanics, arm strength, NFL offense, and NFL coaching standpoint, he's light years ahead of Cook...Bill O'brien was his college coach and recruiter till last year...NFL scouts are going to smile when they watch film of himt. He is also from an all boys military academy (high school), strong background and top recruit when he came out.

hack has shades of joe willie and johnny U in him.

if the mods want to regulate 6 different threads they are welcome to

I know elias is in london so he will not be on and I am sticking with this thread, if 51 and sack want to feel free to go ahead.

well hopefully they will. i just found (and hopefully sack and 51 agree from our old days doing it on scout) that having separate threads on each pick the jets make allows you to discuss each player and not get lost in the clutter surrounding the draft. much easier (imo) to discuss each player individually and not have to sort through a really long thread (which this will ultimately become).

Look, I'd take either guy. Both would be huge upgrades for us and over anyone in this crummy draft class for sure. But give me the guy with the NFL brain, from an NFL system, that has been coached by NFL coaches since he was 17, with the NFL arm.

Can Cook be a stronger armed Pennington? Yes. I do think Cook can be that good. Will he? Im not so sure. Hackenberg can be a better version of Matt Ryan, IMO. Both are 6'4 220ish, big, pro style QBs.

...the kind we've been waiting to see in the draft for years...and they'll likely be in the same one.

What if the Jets inquired about #2 pick and went with Cooper or Fowler?? I wouldn't have a problem with Cooper because he is NFL ready right now.

When considering QB prospects for the Jets, you always have to take conditions into account.

For example, I thought Matt Ryan was a terrific pick for Atlanta the year he came out, but I didn't love him for the Jets.

Why?

Atlanta plays 8 Games every year in a dome, and their four division road games are all in domes (Saints) and warm weather cities (Tampa and Carolina), so you don't necessarily need a strong arm to excel in that environment.

The Jets, OTOH, play their home games in arguably the most brutal conditions for a QB in the league when the weather turns chilly, because if you ask any QB, most will tell you they have no problem playing in snow or rain, what bothers them is wind, and the swirling winds at the Meadowlands when it gets cold is probably the worst in the league, or right up there, the old Shea Stadium might have been even worse, and its hard to throw in those conditions with any degree of effectiveness and accuracy if you can't really spin it (spiral) with velocity.

Make no mistake, thats partly what made Namath such a great fit with the Jets. That dude could zip it. I mean his passes would hum, and his deep ball had no loft, he threw frozen-ropes and those suckers looked like they were hydroplaning.

Thats the ideal QB for the Jets and in the AFC East, where only Miami offers a brief respite from brutal conditions. So IMO Ryan, who has an average NFL arm but not a cannon, was a better fit in Atlanta than with the Jets.

That said, if I'm rating the QB's for the Jets in next years draft, right now I see Hack & Jones battling for the top spot, the loser is #2 , then Cook comes in at #3 . Of course a lot can happen between now and next year, but that would be my early ranking for the Jets.

Don't sleep on Cardale Jones.

I don't know why he had such a hard time beating out those other two stiffs, but in the pros it wouldn't even be a competition, Jones is a physical beast with an absolute cannon for an arm. I was impressed with his accuracy too, and he's cool under pressure in big games. This kid has a chance to make himself the #1 Pick in next years draft.

Needs more time to evaluate. id put an incomplete draft grade on him and very boom or bust at this point...plus he comes from Urban Meyer...not exactly known to develop pro style QBs.

I agree that he's raw, thats why I said "he has a chance" to make himself the #1 Pick, because his measurables and physical talent are jaw-dropping, but absolutely he has to show that he can A) win the starting job in Ohio State this year, and B) play at the same high level he played at last year.

But if he does those two things, mark my words, he's a TOP 3 lock in next years draft.

We can have a thread for each Jets pick. Each player gets only one thread, so posters need to make sure that someone didn't already start the thread. We don't want a half dozen threads started for each player.

That, too me, makes the most sense.

JMO for whatever its worth.

He had one good year and blew up the combine. The NFL is littered with one hit wonders. I'm not saying he's not going to be a good player. I am just saying I am not as high on him as Cooper at that position. Same for Dupree. It's not silly. One year of production in college is just not enough of a track record to justify the 6th pick in my opinion.

If you don't like the kid because he needed to go to a small school, build his grades, then transfer to D1 to play football, fine. I won't hold that against the kid. As a JR, after the transfer, they started him the last 5 games...he had 35 catches and 5 TDs in those 5 games. The next season he had 100+ receptions.

From the moment he transferred, he was a stud. The fact he chose a different path to the pros than Cooper isn't something I'll hold against him. He's Larry Fitzgerald to Coopers Reggie Wayne. If you wants a smaller, slower, route runner, fine. I'd love the bigger, stronger, faster, more athletic, and also proven talent White...I can live with either, to be honest...I just won't knock a kid who needs more time to adjust to college before shining their star on D1 sports. But id like to point out, he was a stud the year before too... ;)

RG3 played in the same system at the same school and he was the #2 overall pick.

With Petty you are not drafting him based on the pinball machine stats he put up in that offense. That you can take with a grain of salt. You are drafting his physical attributes and the accuracy he's displayed for the most part. I agree that the system makes it exceedingly difficult to get a good read on Petty, he has a huge learning curve ahead of him, but he's a big kid and a real good thrower of the football, and that you can see regardless of the system.
