With Mannion off the board I may start hoping for the best OT left in the 4th and start hoping for Brandon Bridge later in the draft.

Did you like Mariota, Dan? I don't recall.

I did like Marcus a lot yes. I see a lot of similarities between the two, but IMHO, I honestly feel Petty has a higher ceiling. He's built like Jim Kelly. He's a leader on and off the field. Demonstrates a high character profile. He has a stronger arm than Marcus, and at this moment probably wants to showcase the world everyone made a mistake by not drafting him.

Don't get me wrong, both players will be projects of course, but with Mariota, the pressure will be tumultuous.
There will be no wait time for him to be groomed. Had we selected him, it would have been an almost identical situation that we had with Geno Smith. Thrown to the wolves and pray for the best while our patience runs thin every time a re-run mistake occurs.
I feel with Petty, he will sit and watch and learn until he gets his shot ala Aaron Rodgers. The talent is there.

Maybe teams are scared off because of the system he came from, hence the slide. Which is a form of a spread. IMHO, its a perfect fit for Gaileys offense. Plus it lights a fire under Geno's ass to be more consistent as he MUST prove this new regime he's the guy.

If the Jets even take a 3rd day QB don't expect him to get one meaningful snap in camp. Petty Or any other QB will not even compete for the backup job.

It's been 15 years since Brady and if another ever does come around it doesn't around it doesn't mean the Jets get him just because Brady has been our nightmare.

How many long years has it been since Russell Wilson was drafted by the Seahawks in round 3?

We need a young QB with some actual potential to learn and develop behind Fitzpatrick and be ready to step in when ready in 2016. Petty IMO is 3 rounds or so better than Mannion who was reached for in rd 3.

May be the BPA at the beginning of rd 4 and fills our huge need for a viable young QB who can eventually take over for Fitzpatrick

Great point SG3. I made a huge mistake on an old board in which i stated the same exact thing on Russell Wilson. It all depends on so many factors. Wilson went into training camp with no fear and carried himself that no matter who was ahead of him, he would beat out. Especially that the Seahawks paid top dollar to acquire the over hypred Matt Flynn.

Whom ever is the QB draft (if they even do) Mac selects will have the chance to compete. Especially Petty coming from a similar spread system he played at Baylor. Though the best thing from a fans perspective is for him to sit and learn 2-3 years before having him lead the team, unlike what the Jets did with Mark and Geno. That is unless, he comes to camp like Russell did and blows everyone out of the water with his play.

I lean toward Petty, but it is a tough call because his ability to work through a progression of reads is a projection. He did seem to get it on the Gruden show, but cant rely on that.

Tanny would have dealt our 2016 2nd round pick to move up in the 3rd round to get Petty...or such

IF Petty is the choice, getting him in 4th is nice tactical result. But, I wouldnt mind options like Clemmings.....

While this is a very deep draft, I think there is more baggage on these players than any historical draft I remember.

Well, we might as well just go ahead and say high character is a prerequisite for the new regime

Bryce Petty fits that bill perfectly. Well respected from his teammates and his community as he does many charity works.
Very bright and absorbs information very well. The dude is right there for the taking in the 4rth. Hopefully Macc and Bowles think highly of him. If not, I gotta respect this new regime, as they've done nothing else but better this team since day one.

It HAS to be Bryce Petty today, right? I think he's better than anyone currently on our roster. Hundley is a possibility but I don't think he is as good as Geno so that doesn't excite me.

Maybe Jay Ajayi (sp?) is the pick at RB, but that doesn't seem like a great fit. We need a speed back, in my opinion and he's really not that.

Maybe an OL? Clemmings has dropped like a rock and I think he could step right in at guard or right tackle and help this team this season.

I want the QB though. At least with Petty, it gives me some hope that he can one day be that guy.
