NFL Power Rankings: Jets Crack the Top 5

Posted 3 hours ago
Chris Ivory Is Averaging an NFL-Best 115.0 Rush Yards Per Game

At 4-1, the Jets sit behind five unbeaten NFL teams (Patriots, Bengals, Panthers, Packers and Broncos) in the vast majority of the rankings. Week 7 will give the Jets an opportunity to prove themselves against the 5-0 Pats. Kickoff is 1 PM from Foxborough.

The formula is working. An aggressive defense that stops the run, gets after the QB, and forces turnovers, and a running game that's averaging a league-best 146 yards per game. When Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker, and Ryan Fitzpatrick start making plays, it's REALLY rolling.

Chris Burke
Jets No. 5 (Up 2)
The Jets' climb to the top five does not come solely thanks to an easy win over Washington. The real reason New York is climbing: Its balanced offense is providing a strong complement to its top-ranked defense.

Bleacher Report
Sean Tomlinson, NFL Analyst
Jets No. 6 (Up 2)
The New York Jets will win with defense. But Sunday they showed that, when needed, a grinding defensive team can score in bunches.

Jets No. 6 (Up 2)
At 4-1, Todd Bowles has his team off to a fast start. The defense is playing really well, and now faces a huge test in the Patriots.

Fox Sports
Dan Schneier
Jets No. 6 (Up 1)
The Jets are playing well on both sides of the football, aside from a few too many careless turnovers. With an aggressive defense and a power running game, the Jets are built to last as the colder months arrive.

Elliot Harrison, NFL Media Analyst
Jets No. 7 (Up 1)
Yet another win for Todd Bowles and company, who have quietly gotten off to a sturdy 4-1 start and are in sole possession of second place in the AFC East. That Jets defense shook off a few Redskins impact plays before ultimately shutting the door in the second half.

Jets No. 8 (Up 3)
Chris Ivory is averaging an NFL-best 115.0 rushing yards per game this season. The Jets are 4-0 when Ivory is in the lineup (0-1 without him).

Yahoo Sports
Frank Schwab, Shutdown Corner
Jets No. 8 (Up 1)
Not to be like a baseball team worried about innings pitched, but Chris Ivory has never had more than 198 carries in a season. He has 83 in four games played this year. If that average keeps up and he plays in all 11 remaining games, that would be 311 carries. Something to watch.

USA Today
Jets No. 9 (Up 2)
They've outgained all of their opponents this season, a stat that will be put to the test Sunday in Foxborough.

A bit early to look at the playoffs but as of today, the Jets are the top wildcard and headed to Indy for their first game. This is going to change drastically as the season goes on, but it is comforting to note that even if they lose this week, they will still be in playoff position. That means if they win, it is just might be time to start taking that possibility seriously

If the Jets can somehow rise to the occasion and beat the Patsies this weekend, then you'll know this top 5 ranking is legitimate. Right now this ranking is BS.

They haven't even beaten a team with a winning record. The fact is, last years Jets would have been at least 3-2 with this cupcake schedule.

After this weekend, the ranking for the Jets will be much more realistic. They'll likely drop out of the top ten..

If the Jets win you will find some way to diminish it. You will be on here telling long time Jet fans not to get to excited. Most of all you want the Jets to lose this game, fall out of the meaningless top 10 poll and prove yourself right.

So you don't disagree with what I'm saying then, ugh?
