On Thursday Head Coach Robert Saleh stated that OL Coach John Benton won't be back next season for the Jets, laments terms he has been terminated. With that said former Jets legend took to Twitter essentially throwing his hat into the ring, saying he is interested in joining the Jets coaching staff as the new OL coach. We will see if the front office gives him that chance to interview, he does have the resume as a player. Could be interesting.

After two years of breaking in new HC and coordinators I’m not sure another rookie at such an important position is the the right move. I love Mangold but not for this and at this time.

The best coach, is a former player. There are only two OLM that make sense to even entertain becoming an OL coach and neither of them are tackles. IOL understand line adjustments. Mangold understands the best way to protect the QB and understands the terminology. Not to mention. He literally has been entrenched inside Florham Park since being cut, then retiring. Worst scenario we have to hire a replacement but believe you me this would garner more positive spin for this organization and allow the team to draft a center having a former great one coach him to be opening day starter.

Helen Keller could have done a better job than our line this year...I say Hire him

I was generalizing about former players, particularly great ones who don’t typically turn out to be great coaches. IOL and specifically Centers may be the exception though being the ‘qb’ of the line. I’m still a bit on the fence with the idea of being a first time coach. I’ll defer to you on Mangold as I didn’t realize he is around the team and facility.

I like the idea of bringing Nick aboard, if not for one of the current openings, at least bring him in as an assistant.
