NOT SO FAST on the Giants taking Chubb

According to the NFLN's Garafolo, the Giants are shifting to a base 3-4, and IMO Chubb is strictly a 4-3 DE

That tells me the Giants could be maneuvering to trade down for Barkley, Nelson or Davenport who is a legit 3-4 edge rusher.

This JPP trade could have been the first move, the second being a trade down for more picks, or maybe they are just committed to rebuilding with a QB at 2

All I know is, if they really are moving to a 3-4, the assumption that this signals they are taking Chubb doesn't seem to make any sense.

If the Giants plan on trading down with the Bills, they will no longer be in the sweet spot of this draft. They’ll have a lot of picks, but they’ll miss out on players like Barkley and Nelson at #12. Almost guaranteed.

Davenport is a raw player. He’s not nearly as safe a pick as Chubb in terms of pass rushers. I’m honestly not familiar enough with Chubb’s scheme fit, so you may be right about that. But the growing suspicion seems to be that the Giants aren’t in love with any of these QB’s enough to take one at #2. I’ve heard that from about five different draft analysts. Nothing concrete, though.

Chubb has already had a private workout with the Giants, and he’s scheduled to visit their facility again in a few weeks per Bleacher Report.

Also it has been pointed out by several scouts that Chubb, with his skill set, could probably play in either system.
