It doesn’t appear to me that’s it’s being talked about enough as to how very good to great of an off-season the Jets are having this year. From the media and maybe even Jets fans! All I’ve been hearing about for the most part of this off-season is the Cleveland Browns, New York Giants, Green Bay Packers, Arizona Cardinals and New England Patriots off season moves.
Now I’ll admit that I’m not that happy with the draft this year. I have it at an overall “C” grade, and I believe the first three picks were spot on pretty much but the last three picks are very suspect. Hopefully I’m proven wrong on the last three picks. So the draft may have been so-so and that’s only in some people’s opinion but the free agency is where the Jets have hit an home run.
Correct me if I’m wrong but they signed the two best and most desired free agents available. Le’Veon Bell and C. J. Mosely were the two best free agents out there and the Jets signed them both. They’re both only 26-27 years old and if they can stay healthy, they can play for 3-6 more years at a premier skill level. Osmele was a very good signing. He’s an all-pro oline men who can and will hopefully return back to form. Crowder is an excellent slot WR. No he’s not the big body #1 WR, I was hoping they signed or drafted but he will have a very positive impact on this team.
Biggest additions may not have even been the players, it might have been the head coach and defensive coordinator. Gase and Williams have the capability to bring something to this team that hasn’t been here in quite some time. I’d say since the Bill Parcells era. That’s discipline and heart to play the game at maximum effort. This will be a major plus here!!!
Gase loves Darnold and wanted to come here mainly for him. Also to challenge the hated Patriots and get back at Miami for firing him. Getting back on track, that’s something that is very crucial. Look at what happened with the Cardinals. They hired Kingsbury and he drafts another QB and trades Rosen. Gase is an offensive mind that has helped many QBs that were average to being better and great to being greater. No reason to believe he can’t do the same with our 21 year old stud QB.
Gregg Williams track record speaks for its self with what he can do with a defense. Look at the defensive power this man has to work with. Adams, Maye, Mosely, Williamson, Polite, Jenkins, Luvu and Copeland. I’m assuming Lee will be traded soon enough. The Williams duo and the rest of that dline. Now the corners are a big question and hopefully they address that before seasons starts or can scheme throughout the season to help out that weakness.
Icing to the cake is the off-season isn’t done and the Jets can still add a few pieces to help the secondary or oline or WR group. This off-season has been great for the Jets IMO and I don’t see how anyone can really argue this. It’s not talked about enough and that’s cool. Let the Jets stay under the radar and hopefully they show everyone what they’ve build the entire season come game one.
Lastly, I again will say that I’m not making any predictions but there is absolutely no reason, with health and a little luck playing a major role here that the Jets can’t and shouldn’t have a very good season.
