Now this is an example of a bad draft pick

If you think Williams was a bad pick, just be glad we didn't do this

ESPN Boston reports the Patriots' second-round selection of Stanford S Jordan Richards "raised some eyebrows in some NFL scouting circles."

Per reporter Mike Reiss, some clubs viewed Richards as a "late-round consideration." We weren't a fan of the pick. Richards is not a plus athlete. Bill Belichick has a checkered history with second-round defensive backs. Both 2011's Ras-I Dowling and 2012's Tavon Wilson were viewed as reaches. Dowling is nearly out of the league, while Wilson played only 188 snaps on defense last season.

Common guys, everybody knows Beliache is a draft genius. Think about that first rounder he nabbed last year with the torn Achilles who disappeared instantly to the IR

And what about a long snapper from Navy on day 2? Who else but Cheating Bill knew how important a long snapper is to the team

Maybe it's just me but I hate wasting a roster spot on a dedicated long snapper. I missed the days when he backed up another position.

Yeah, we got the #1 rated player at six and that is a bad thing. Lord, I apologize. The realty is Mo wants crazy money and Snacks is going to want crazy money....so Mac put them on notice that they are replaceable.

There's a few that think Williams is redundant

yes, and redundant is different from not liking. Good choice of words for sure.

We just drafted a guy cut from the same cloth as Reggie White, Watt, and Cortez Kennedy.

I dont know anyone calling it a bad pick.

That's different from saying we have John Randle and Chris Doleman already on the roster and I'd like to keep them while adding Reggie White...

Bowles is a known 3-4 hybrid DC.
Just think about this front, either as a 4-3 with a LB up

------------------------BRADY
__RT_______RG________C__________LG_______LT
Mo_____Snacks_____Williams___Richardson_____Coples

or as a 3-4 offset

___Rich'dson__Snaks__Mo(up)_Williams__Mauldin(up)
LT___LG_______C______RG______RT___TE
----------Tommy Roadkill

Reversed, but you can get the drift in this photo.
All 3 49er big fatties are on and/or inside the OGs & the 4th is on the RT's nose with an OLB outside the TE.
For all intents, the LT is isolated in space with nobody to block until he collapses back toward the middle, which puts him at a decided disadvantage in power blocking, and further collapses the left side of the pocket.
This is almost an impossible passing situation because it locks up the TE, and both RBs as blockers, and still can't isolate ABS man-on-man blocking.

Even if Williams isn't an ideal fit, he still has more value than anyone else on the board, he could have been packaged in a trade for a player we need.

Not a smart GM move.
Because of the upcoming contracts on Mo & Harrison, followed by Richardson the year after, unless you have contingency planned you end up at a disadvantage in contract negotiations.

This way even if one leaves, his replacement is already a starter, and meanwhile Tommy Roadkill SERIOUSLY contemplates just retiring rather than spend his doting years as a drooling colostomy-bag cripple 'homme divorcé' in a wheelchair.

Really, I wish my team had the brain trust that brought the likes of:

Calvin Pryor
Dee Milliner
Geno Smith
Stephen Hill
Vernon Golston
Kyle Willson
Vlad Ducasse
Joe McKnight
Kellen Clemons
Dwayne Robertson
:im-outta-here-bye-b

Just to name a few, but hey I'll concede, as fan I just don't no how we'll get over these awful drafts, we'll never win a Super Bowl with talent like this,,,,,,,, Oh wait!!!!, Never mind.

I don't believe it's a smart move either. My point is aimed at the statement that Williams was a bad pick. My response is that you made a super unit on d,flexibility negotiating contracts, and even if your argument is that he shouldn't have been drafted because we needed to draft day, a wr, that Williams is still valuable in the sense that a team that wanted to draft him would still want to entertain a trade for him. This guy is projected to be a once every 10 year guy.

Actually with a well placed camera and some properly deflated balls that crew would probably be good for a few Super Bowls too. You should be so proud of the Patriots.
