Loved, loved ,loved that Bowles said in his presser that "it's not Cortland" when questioned about his choice to have practice at the hottest point of the day. No more making it easy to be loved which Rex apparently did...

Looks like no one was injured today. That's good news and a good start. Thanks for all the pics and updates. Glad to see some signs for football. We're almost there. And it should be quite an exciting year!

Practice Report: Defense Takes 1st Round

Posted 2 hours ago
Turning the Temperature Up: On an extremely sticky day, the Jets started camp outside before lightning forced a move inside to the fieldhouse. Todd Bowles wants his players to get acclimated to playing in the heat and he has scheduled mostly mid-late afternoon practices for the duration of camp. Bowles calls it “heat shape” and the Jets will be in the middle of a scorcher here this weekend.

Leo Runs with 1st Team: Rookie defensive lineman Leonard Williams, who was taken No. 6 overall by the Jets in the 2015 NFL Draft, received first team reps as camp got underway.

“The biggest challenge is just getting adjusted to the speed, learning the communication and just bonding with my teammates,” he said. “Not that I’m out there with the ones, I just have to communicate with everybody.”

2015 Jets Training Camp Kicks Off

Play of the Day: Cornerback Dexter McDougle, who tore his ACL during a training camp practice last year, got his second pro season off on the right foot. Playing man coverage on rookie WR Jonathon Rumph, McDougle attacked a Bryce Petty pass in the air. Hauling it in as he fell to the ground, the Maryland product got up and sprinted the other way.

“I had one in the spring and the guys were all over me about it because I didn’t take it back,” he told me. “I just thought I got to get up and get the pick-six.”

3rd Down Battle: Although the Jets defensive finished No. 6 overall last season, they struggled getting off the field on third down. For a number of reasons – including Darrelle Revis, Antonio Cromartie, Buster Skrine & Marcus Gilchrist – that number should improve in 2015. In today’s first training camp competitive period, the defense won the battle of the sticks against the offense while claiming victory on four on third down. So at the end of practice – the offense did push-ups. The aforementioned Gilcrhist, who was limited this spring with a shoulder injury, was full-go in team today.

Colon/Ridley Updates: Guard Willie Colon (knee), RB Stevan Ridley (knee) and DL Keith Vickerson opened camp on the PUP list. Colon, who is battling soreness, could be the first one eligible to practice. He wants to see how he’ll respond tomorrow.

Right Guard Rotation Continues: Both Brian Winters and Brent Qvale received first team reps with the first-team offense at right guard. According to Bowles, there will be different players working with the first team on different days and they will battle that spot out. The Jets don the pads on Saturday.

Highlights: Ryan Fitzpatrick had a pair of downfield strikes – first hooking up with Shaq Evans in 7-on-7 and then lofting a pretty ball to speedy T.J. Graham in team… Bowles said Geno Smith looked “sharp” and one of the starter’s favorite targets was Eric Decker…Antonio Cromartie was active in his 2015 training camp debut with a pair of PDs. Zac Stacy, a powerful downhill runner, showed some good explosion through the hole.

Glad to see that you made it here.

Thanks, I'm glad to be back. It's been a long journey relocating (3 mos. start to finish) and trying to get caught up with the merge. I'm glad to see that I was able to log in without registering. Are the post count from the other site being transferred here as well?

FLORHAM PARK — The activity at One Jets Drive on Thursday wasn't all about defensive end Sheldon Richardson's arrest, what he had to say before the rest of the planet knew about arrest, and how his arrestmay impact him and the Jets. The team really did hold a training camp practice, too. It was their first of the summer. Players wore helmets and shorts, but no pads. Pads come later.

Some things we noticed:

1. Geno Smith vs. Ryan Fitzpatrick. Because it's always about the quarterbacks with the Jets, isn't it? Darryl Slater has a more detailedreport here. Just know that both quarterbacks seemed to look sharper as the day wore on. It was interesting at one point to see general manager Mike Maccagnan, with his ever-present coffee in hand, making his way over to Smith during a position drill for a close-up look. All eyes really are on Smith this summer.

2. Right guard. Brent Qvale, an undrafted free agent from last year who spent his rookie season on the practice squad, split the first-team reps with Brian Winters, who began last year as the starting left guard before tearing his ACL. The Jets are clearly tinkering at right guard. We'll b watching to see if Oday Aboushi or Dakota Dozier get any runs with the 1s on Friday.

3. Sheldon Richardson. Before the arrest thing, which no one—not even the folks upstairs—knew about, Richardson ran with the second-team defense. The Jets were already aware that Richardson had been suspended for the first four games of the regular season, so they're already planning their practices for just that. Rookie Leonard Williams and usual-backup Leger Douzable both got snaps with the first-team defense in Richardson's stead.

4. Play of the day. Shaq Evans, a fourth-round pick who spent last season on the practice squad, smoked cornerback Antonio Cromartie for a long touchdown in a 7-on-7 drill, with quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick hitting Evans in stride. Cromartie wasn't all bad on Thursday, though later on, undrafted free agent Jonathon Rumph faked him out on a quick out, and Cromartie got up after the play and grabbed his ankle, though he turned out to be fine.

6. Who played well?Wideout T.J. Graham made a bunch of catches all over the field. Cornerback Dexter McDougle, coming off ACL surgery, looked pretty good and even had an interception. Fitzpatrick has a strong arm. Running back Daryl Richardson, who was on last year's practice squad, showed a burst of speed. And tight end Wes Saxton made a couple of nice catches.5. Dee Milliner. Milliner, who's coming back from a torn Achilles and did not start camp on the PUP list, was kept out of team drills, though head coach Todd Bowles said Milliner should begin to transition back into the mix in the days ahead. More here.

7. Who didn't play well? It was one practice, so let's not get carried away, but rookie quarterback Bryce Petty, who likely won't play this year anyway, had a bit of a tough go.
The Jets are back at it Friday, with stretching at 1:50 p.m. and practice slated to start at 2:20.

Unfortunately they will not be transferred. Sorry about that.
