NY Post - Zach Wilson Dismissive in Post Game Presser

Zach Wilson has played four games for the Jets since returning from his knee injury. The Jets are 1-3 in those games, the offense has not gained 300 yards in any of them and they are averaging 18 points per game in those games.

The rookie quarterback was asked after Sunday’s 31-24 loss to the Dolphins how much responsibility falls on him for the offense’s struggles in those areas.

“Yeah, I don’t worry about any of that stuff,” Wilson said, quickly dismissing the question.

There are only three games remaining in Wilson’s rookie season and it sure would be nice for the Jets to see some signs that he is the franchise quarterback they thought they were drafting at No. 2 overall.

On Sunday, he went 13 of 23 for 170 yards with a rushing touchdown and a fumble. He was sacked six times. Wilson completed just four passes in the second half and the Jets’ fourth-quarter possessions with the game in the balance ended like this: Wilson fumble, punt, punt, turnover on downs.

“Everyone is always going to look to the quarterback,” Jets coach Robert Saleh said. “That’s just natural. Call me old school. It’s a collective effort. It’s receivers winning one-on-one, it’s O-line protecting, it’s the run game going, and then obviously it’s Zach delivering the football where it needs to be delivered and in a timely manner. So it’s not all on Zach. It’s on all of us.”

Wilson did make some nice improvisational plays. He scrambled for a first down, making a tough run. On a throwback play, he ran around to keep the play alive and then found Ryan Griffin for a 23-yard gain. He looked more like the quarterback he was at BYU.

“I feel like this was my biggest game as far as playing free,” Wilson said. “Having that mentality of scramble around, make some guys miss, just play free, just react to what the defense is giving us. They did some things we weren’t expecting, and you got to just try and make some plays out of it.”

OC Mike LaFleur emptied his back of tricks. One gadget play worked particularly well. In the second quarter, facing third-and-15 from their own 20, the Jets had Wilson throw a short pass to Jamison Crowder, who then threw it across the field to Braxton Berrios, who gained 22 yards and a first down.

He’s a young kid who’s thrust into the media capital of the world as the QB of a mediocre team. He’s not ready for what he’s facing and it’s showing. I thought it was a mistake to draft this kid and put him in this situation coming from BYU and sadly what I thought is coming to fruition.
He’s a smart kid and he’s should be able to deal with this in time if it doesn’t eat him up . He’s either going to be something special or Jay Cutler 2.0 .

that is the problem with drafting...
have to know if the players will be able to handle the media market and to this point he has folded...
He is a smart kid but he keeps making the same bone headed mistakes each week... that is on the wonderful group of coaches surrounding him he is not listening too... 3 quarterback coaches, 1 veteran Super Bowl Champion and a partridge in a pear tree backup to backup QB in Mike White...

It’s year 1, so like the coaching staff and front office he gets a pass from me because I expected it . If this continues into next season then action needs to be taken. My question is will this front office and coaching staff have the “sand” to do what needs to be done

the culture is bad but the fans are loyal...
I think the culture is changing also. This GM is targeting the right type of players to build a team. This coaching staff is putting those players on the field early in an attempt to build through the draft the core of what should stick around for years . Last time I saw something like this was when Walt Michaels built the sack exchange and also had Wesley Walker and Bruce Harper with bookend OTs and A solid OG set led by Randy Rasmussen .
I like what o see this far and am hoping for some continuity in the draft and with the coaching staff .

No

The culture is bad
The team is bad
Coaches are bad
Players are bad
Fans are ready to bail
I hung in for 50
But don’t really care anymore
And I was over the top crazy for this team all that time
Maybe it’s just worn on me

I’ll never bail . I can’t. My blood is red but a closer look shows it has a ton of Jets green mixed in . My kids though the traitors have abandoned this doomed airline .
