Offensive Line: A complete mystery

Joe Douglas a former lineman in the NFL prides himself in acquiring linemen to fix the horrendous line play we have witnessed over the last three years... Mekhi Becton was suppose to be the anchor at left tackle but for whatever reason it seems that he is going to be labeled a bust that can be converted as an interior lineman maybe surmounted veteran guard Greg Van Roten at right guard...

Don't know how long Becton will be out for especially if it is only an MCL Sprain... Mekhi is a big dude and maybe his run prowess may be served inside... There is one other solution is put Becton at LG and move AVT to LT... It may be a big slap in the face but we need to get things right and not let it fester until Wilson is like Burrow last year on IR rehabbing a serious injury...

Connor McGovern hasn't stepped up his line protection, maybe he is not able to understand what he is seeing... Either way the protection was horrid... Oddly enough GVR was the best lineman out there against the Panthers with rookie AVT and Moses coming in second and third respectively...

It is hard to come up with positives but who do we have in depth that can step-in, in case of another injury? Dan Feeney? Chuma Edoga? It is time to make a move or two, we have picks and some players that can be used to acquire what we need...

LaFleur, Saleh and Joe Douglas need to address this now, not later...

the SNY team wasn't as worried as us. said it's a scheme issue and the fact that they haven't played together that much

it is a scheme issue...

GVR & Connor McGovern are power blockers
Becton is an agile guy but is an impact blocker
Like Becton George Fant is also an impact blocker that is more athletic and fits this scheme
AVT as LT last year in college was zone blocker, at guard he is probably the only one that is built for this scheme

Moses like GVR & McGovern he is also a power blocker but he is capable in a zone scheme

Putting this line together is hard but like they said on SNY they have to be more flexible in designing the blocking scheme instead of trying to make players do what they are uncomfortable in doing...

So if Becton is fine but needs a week or three off, Fant will step in and he is going to give a little more flexibility with his athleticism which will help AVT and Connor maintain the backside of Wilson... When Moses stepped in his capability in this system showed... One note GVR looked good...

5 total penalties on the OL, that actually not that bad...

If I'm the opposing DC, I'm blitzing the shit out of the Jets until they prove they can pick it up. Can a guy chip someone for a change? It feels like Groundhog Day.

the stunts early got us...

that is lack of communication on who like I said it is a mystery...

if they can clean this up and give a pocket for Wilson to step up and not let the defense control and collapse the pocket with not just one but both tackles in his lap while he is trying to search for a wide open receiver/tight end or runningback...

Opposing DC's don't need to blitz at all! The stunts killed us and they were coming on 4 man rushes. That's usually a communication issue, so hopefully they can get that cleaned up

The pass blocking was less than what was anticipated but the run blocking was atrocious. Do we really want Zach to throw 37 times? Panthers controlled the LOS period. Call it whatever, scheme, technique, lack of communication. 2.6 ypc? 17 rushes? Yeah I know we fell behind and had to abandon the run. But that is supposed to be our bread and butter. Dominate the LOS, score early, and keep the oppositions defense honest with balance. If we can't run when opponents know that's what we're planning, it exposes deficiencies in the passing game. We're supposed to be protecting the rookie (Zach). That being mentioned, going scoreless an entire half spelled doom. Panthers should have been up by a larger margin.

yes. That's what they said.

concerning to me that some of these guys were brought in here by this regime and don't fit the scheme. to me, that means they have to change the scheme to fit the players they have at keast some of the time like Bart said, unless they think these guys can pick it up by next week because what we saw yesterday was a disgrace

C'mon y'all, yesterday was literally the first time the starting OL lined up together - the first time! You all know football well enough to know that an OL needs time to gel and get in sync. They will get better as the season goes along.

we do know that, but that performance was as bad as it gets. half a season of that and Zach could be ruined. belichick will try and ruin him this week for sure

when both tackles were not anchoring down until they were in Wilson's lap that was technique...

now the second half they were a bit better but when they were on roller skates there was no room for Wilson to step up and throw... now they need to figure out how to work together and gel on the practice squad rather go home and eat a buffet to gain weight and add girth...

this is preparation, falls on the offense coordinator and his coaches...

technique failed that is on the coaches...

this scheme is based on technique they all failed except for GVR...

I said this yesterday to move Becton inside since he is out of shape so he doesnt get Zach hurt by his quiting allow edge rusher to go by from his flat out stopping on play. 3 sacks are Becton. He was paid to stay in shape in off season being ready and wasnt. Move fat becton inside and cut him. Bectons excuse is injury but injury from his being out of shape. He will milk injury and blame poor play on injury when its all him not being a Profesional Player. Quitting on plays allowing QB to get smoked pisses me off. Get rid of him.

he is not out of shape dude is 6'7" 360 which for his height is a good weight and he was the best OL out there... He got beat like McGovern and the IOL because of the stunts... Mekhi Becton like SNY said is a horizontal impact blocker but asked to sit back and engage is not his style...

Mekhi Becton:
  • Man-on-man blocking: The straight-ahead style of blocking, with a defender playing directly over you and you driving straight into him. Most defenses use four linemen, so man-on-man blocking is common on pass plays, with each offensive lineman choosing the opponent opposite him, and the center helping out to either side.
this is who he is, then they are asking him to do this:

  • Slide block: The entire offensive line slides down the line of scrimmage — a coordinated effort by the line to go either right or left. It’s a good technique when the quarterback prefers to roll or sprint right, running outside the tackle while attempting to throw the football.
but when the Center does not make the right line calls and after snap there was little to no communication this is what happens...

2nd half they communicated better and they adjusted and the pass rush was limited when they overloaded one more than we had to block...

not sure but the scheme is fishy...

Trap block: The offensive line deliberately allows a defensive player to cross the line of scrimmage untouched, and then blocks him with a guard or tackle from the opposite side or where he’s not expecting it. The intent is to create a running lane in the area that the defender vacated.

Zone block: Each lineman protects a specific area or zone. Even if the defensive player leaves this area, the blocker must stay in his zone because the play or ball may be coming in that direction and the quarterback wants that area uncluttered. Blocking in a zone is generally designed to key on a specific defensive player who’s disrupting the offensive game plan.

So they are suppose to Zone Block while Slide Block doesn't make sense for these guys... Trap Blocking could be incorporated since they looked like they were trapping the defenders into Zach Wilson's lap all first half yesterday...

I still believe the Jets have a mish mosh of technical problems across the line... AVT on one play literally was thrown on to his ass... That is not technique just pure power and taking the knockout...

The Jets O Line has to work on that twist game on the center, because Belichick will have a field day if they don't. Can't be on different levels, May need to man block stunts, or work on communication pre snap, so they're not caught on different levels.

I agree & for 20 bucks a month they could be on weight watchers. Perry may have been the fridge but Becton is the meat truck with a broken transmission
