According to veteran offensive tackle Ben Ijalana, he will be competing with Kelvin Beachum for the starting left tackle position. Brendon Shell and Brent Qvale will be competing for the opposite spot. Due to Beachum’s salary, it’s likely the Jets will give him the edge in the competition.

But as we can see on the first unofficial depth chart this plan above isn't so. Kelvin Beachum has both Qvale and Jeff Adams as his backups while Ben Ijalana is starting at right tackle over Brandon Shell whom I'd say did enough to lock down that position from last season.
If I had to guess who would be the Jets’ starting tackles on opening day, I’d say it would be Beachum and Shell. But at this point it is anyone's guess.
Would like to see Qvale take the next step forward and compete for a starting job even tho he looked even better as an interior guard, guess will have to wait for him to get his chance. Qvale in contract year will be a restricted free agent after this season.
