I'm not a massive fan of this draft, either, but I'm deferring to them over my assessments. If it all blows up, though, they don't get the benefit of the doubt.
If I knew we were going to take a QB and a LB/S hybrid with the first two picks, I would have preferred Lynch in RD 1 and Su'a Cravens in RD 2. IMO Hack is a much longer shot than Lynch, but at least he has size and a cannon, so there is a high ceiling and if you're going to gamble on a QB, thats the type of QB you want to gamble on. I don't love this draft, but it at least has a chance to exceed expectations.

wonder what Geno Smith thinks?

might feel like he just got suckered punch by this front office...

He's done.

Bring in a veteran, whether Fitz or someone else, and let Hack and Petty battle it out for successor.

We still need to bring Fitz for next year. He is quite valuable for his smarts and his presence in being able to mentor CH and Petty.
Get rid of Geno finally, and if management doesn't get truly excited about the development progress of either CH or Petty, draft another QB in 2017.

I just feel the Jets are done with Fitz situation... Its been more than 5 weeks since they had any communication... Could Hoyer be the bridge for one year for either Hack or Petty take the job?

This reminds me so much of the 2014 draft when we passed on Cooks, Benjamin, Matthews, etc. Instead we took Saunders and Shaq Evans and everyone on the message boards managed to talk themselves into thinking it was a stroke of genius.

Hack was a disaster at PSU, with better talent around him than people let on, certainly better than what Paxton Lynch was dealing with. Hack's ex-coach wanted nothing to do with him. Paying Osweiler means nothing in regards to drafting "your guy".

Y'all remember the lengths Chip Kelly went to last year to get Marcus Marriota??? That's what you do for a franchise guy. O'Brien could have drafted Hack in the 2nd and given nothing to a team for compensation, and he passed on him for an overachieving center.

Tells me a lot, and should to you guys as well.

When he had Robinson and an OL and O’Brien he was great. Jets have great WR’s and decent OL.

Here's what I guess the front office is thinking. When it comes to QB, they got the more solid, surer pretty good project in Petty last year. While Lynch would be a great fit, is he anything different from Petty? On the other hand hand, Hackenberg is like swinging for the fences. He has an enormous ceiling, and a floor somewhere around the fiery gates of hell. Petty is the safe, potentially pretty good NFL QB. Hack is the guy who can be all-world, or will be Ryan Leaf in two years.

I'm sick of the Fitz situation! He wants the NYJ to bid against themselves. I'm with you, bring in a stop gap guy and let the pups battle it out.

Guys, if you think about it even for a second, we HAD to draft a QB. Fitz is far from being signed, Petty is an unknown at best, and Geno....well, we all know how that one looks like.
We ARE desperate at the most important position in football.

you can't just discount the cap impact. houston just won their division and is trying to build a team that can go further in the playoffs. you don't spend that much on a QB (personally i think they vastly overpaid) and then turn around and trade up for another QB project in the 2nd. martin was a great fit for them and a need.

now i understand not liking hack. there's a lot to be concerned about.

i personally think he's worth the roll of the dice. tons of upside, but by no means a given. if he hits, you got your franchise QB. if we miss, it's kellen clemens. hurts but not franchise killing. but imo, worth it, based solely on what we saw his freshman year with good coaching and talent around him.

some have a good point coaching had to do a lot with Hackenberg's play as when Bill O'Brien was at Penn State, CH looked like he was going to have one hell of a career then O'Brien left and with the sanctions against Penn State CH stayed and dealt with what he had and honestly did a fair job...

loyal is one thing he has going for him besides a huge arm... also he runs like a truck...
