Chuma Edoga. Blocked for Darnold at USC a couple years ago.

Might not be the answer at center everyone wanted, but this is definitely an OL upgrade. And he could definitely develop into the future LT the team wants.

He's only played right tackle well and a long shot to ever be a starter. He's compared to Beachum which isn't an upgrade as I see it.

IMO Justice Hill would have been better value and a better pick, dynamic scat-back, makes Cannon look like a UDFA, but Mac knows Jets fans would have been calling for his head if he drafted another RB before he drafted an O-lineman. IMO this pick was a reach to pacify the lynch-mob.

So in the early fourth, I could see the Jets going after either Michael Jordan or Lamont Gaillard for C, or Julian Love or Amani Orywariye at CB.

I guarantee it didn't pacify us.

Jets draft USC OT Chuma Edoga

Matt Miller had him rated as the 10th best Tackle in a deep tackle class. Darnold’s RT at USC in 2017.

It’s OL depth. Macc addressed the o-line. Now maybe we can calm down. Jonathan Harrison looks like our starting Center. He isn’t a world beater, but he did a good enough job replacing Long.

True. What I could see about him making the shift is he has the length and athleticism. His pass set isn't the best, but he definitely has a mean streak. I think if he gets his technique in order, he can slide from RT to LT.

I could see him being 10th. Might be a little higher for me, 7-9th.

He told Kimberley Jones in an interview that he showed up out of shape at the combine and injured his hamstring resulting in a terrible 40 time, among other tests. He admitted to making some mistakes and that he’s learned from it.

Seems a little immature, but his tape is off the charts. He comes around the edge fast, and looks identical to Josh Allen. If he matures a little, this guy could be a steal. But the bust factor is there, too. And it’s all dependent on his attitude.

There seem to be mixed reviews on this kid, some people like him, some people don't, and most have no strong POV either way.

All seem to agree that he has the talent to develop into a starter, possibly at OT, even LT, or possibly inside at OG.

I hope they try to coach him up at Center too.

Honestly, I would be more optimistic about this pick if Mac had a better track record at evaluating O-linemen in the mid to late rounds.

Because his track record is so poor, it's hard for me to get excited about this pick. I hope he gives us a reason to believe he's a potential starter and not just another career backup that Mac normally takes with these mid to late round O-linemen. Anyway, I don't love the pick, thought there were better players on the board like Justice Hill or Hakeem Butler, but I understand the needs on the O-line and I hope Mac hit the jackpot with this one.

As for their first 3rd RD Pick, Polite ...

I think that has real steal potential. He may not impress people off the field, but he's a QB assassin on the football field.

Finally they draft an oline men before the fourth round. Hopefully this kid learns fast, develops well and is a starter ASAP. We need that! What we also need is Hakeem Butler with the 105 pick in the fourth round. Also a center and a CB. So far, not a bad draft at all Mac!

I don't see Edoga as a C. Not even sure I see him having the body type or skill set to be a G. He's a tackle, and I think he could develop on either side.

The Bleacher Report live podcast:

Jachai Polite pick

Matt Miller: “He’s Melvin Ingram on the field. He bends the corner really well. Gregg Williams is going to light a fire under him”. Grade A+

Connor Rodgers: “He’s a little immature but he’s not a bad person. He’s absolutely a first round talent. This is where the Jets need to swing for the fences in the draft for an edge rusher and they did just that”. Grade A+

Edoga on that highlight reel looked very impressive... Until the combine Polite was a 1st

I watched tape on both after they were picked - Polite has a lot of talent. He does look like Josh Allen. I'm always worried about guys with character concerns - but if its immaturity, he'll learn fast that in the NFL that won't go over well. And I think this team has some real leaders now on defense with Mosley and Adams, and a tough-minded coach who can help him grow up fast. We'll see what happens.

The USC tackle looks REALLY good. He's really quick, great feet. Not sure why he fell so far. He looks like a late first, early second type of player.
