With Zach….. it’s a moot point anyhow. He will back up Rodgers this year, and they aren’t going to pick up his 5th year option, so after next season he will be gone anyways. My guess is Rodgers plays 3 or 4 years, we draft a rookie QB next season and let him sit and learn under Aaron

I only pray we don't need to have him start any games during the season. He is still a long ways away from being a competent QB.

The biggest problem I see with Zach is the complete inaccuracy with the short and intermediate throws. I don't know if it's mental or what, but he struggles profusely with short throws.

That may not be something that can be fixed. I can't comprehend why he can throw a 40 yard dart on target but can't throw a simple 5-7 yard out route.
Correct me if I'm wrong but he had two incompletions, one a batted ball (another issue but not an accuracy one necessarily) and an out to Gipson that it looks as though he may have thrown it away. Both short throws were on the money. You lose credibility when you only see things one way.

This is a correct statement. Zach’s swing passes were right on. His pocket presence is better, and it looks like he is going thru proper progressions. Maybe is is learning under Rodgers , but basically he is back to a rookie level in year 3, which I guess is improvement. Also…. maybe it was the camera angles, but he looks a lot bigger this year ????? What I was looking for was the quick bailout, which fortunately he didn’t do last night

He ran what? 6 plays and had 2 inaccurate passes in 6 plays? It's a small sample size but that's 30%+

It's not seeing things one way, it's evaluating what is there to be seen.

5 passing plays, one batted ball and one throw OB instead of throwing into double coverage. See it how you like, but get your numbers right. Even with the batted ball he's 60% (3/5), not horrible. Just be honest, you don't like the kid and no matter if its good bad or indifferent, it will be bad in your eyes.

Just for the record, I don't like or dislike the kid but I would like him to succeed for the Jets' sake. Two years too late, perhaps, but he is a kid who wasn't ready for a starting position in the NFL and certainly not NY. I am rooting for him to grow up and fulfill his potential, if for nothing else so we have a backup plan for our 39 year old QB.

I’ve been clear I don’t like the kid and don’t believe in him. I’ve also, given credit where credit is due. You seem to be really upset and on some personal attack for whatever reason.

Like I said, he is great with the deep balls and lacks accuracy of short and intermediate passes. That’s no secret, it’s been like that since he was in college.

It’s exactly what I said above but you clearly did what you are accusing me of doing “see what you want and ignore everything else”

60% ain’t great, but its way better than his career average. Either way, it’s a small sample size. We really cant evaluate quite yet. If he can hold a 60% average over the entire preseason, then that will be definitive progress

We should have kept Mike. It's not a money thing at his stage for the Jets. It's a pride thing. Zach:Second overall, a bust? C'mon , we're the Jets, we been there, done that. Oh, Mike isn't starting for the fish.
JD: This Rice guy came from Mississippi Valley State let him go.

Of the 3 QBs to play Zach did look the best (again very small sample size, but we need to go with what we have). Streveler looked absolutely horrible, so not sure what value he brings outside of maybe practice squad.

Hopefully we’ll get a better look in the next few preseason games. On the plus side Zach looked much more comfortable in the pocket, and actually looked to slide in there instead of quickly abandoning it. If Hackett can keep things simple for him, maybe it will help his confidence.

We need a backup to develop, but I don’t think Wilson is going to be willing to sign for backup money after this season.

I think it's more than just the passing plays. The offense ran better. After Boyle went in, they were sloppy.

The sample size of Zach's throws was small. But you could see him go through his decision tree faster.

@Greentilldeath @hatnlvr Gentlemen, another thing to consider regarding Wilson's short passing game. Struggles are not necessarily/entirely the product of poor mechanics. It can also be slow decision making because then passes get forced into windows that have closed.

That’s a good point. I will say Wilson went through his progressions which is an improvement from last year (he would lock in on his first option and he did a better job of panning the field).

One of the errand throws to Yeboah, it looked like he was held. So maybe it would have been on target if that didn’t happen.
