simply put, if petty (who IMO earned the starting job, in both camp & preseason) got us this win, i would legitimately be excited right now.. because we would be finding out if potentially petty is capable of being the guy going forward..
winning today with a 38 year old journeyman does two things:
it helps pad bowles' resume, getting him that much closer to a possible 5 or 6 win season with this roster..
it pushes back petty's second audition, at least one additional week..

100% agree. Appears pretty clear neither Petty or Hack are the firture of this team. So we all might as well just let that go. This season now is about the Jets drafting the best QB available. Not the best QB available after the 49ers and the Redskins or Bills draft their QB. It should be about the Jets drafting #1, #2 at the absolute worse and getting the QB that will be our franchise SB winning QB over the next15-20 years. If TB and McCown screw this up, I think I'm going to lose it!!!
0-16 was the best and only way of assuring the #1 pick and best QB coming out this year. Thanks Jets, J-E-T-S Idiots idiots idiots!!!
More important than a #1 pick that has a 50/50 chance of being a bust is this Jets team is giving effort.
Tough to appease the fan base. They lose, bash everyone. They win, bash the team for screwing up their draft pick.

if bowles won't play petty until we are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, who does that benefit aside from bowles & mccown??
is the plan to win just enough games, just to miss out on one of the blue chip '18 QBs??
that & still not knowing what we may, or may not have in petty before his rookie contract runs out??

I don't understand McCown, except possibly to build up the supporting cast of players for the franchise's next QB. It's easier to plug a young QB into a team that is more built up than one that is as green as the QB is. That is about all I have about it.
As for Petty, I am guessing the organization has seen enough to know he's not the guy. Not that we see it, but that is what it seems like.
Bullshit!!!! You go ahead and route for this garbage ass team to win 5-6 games with McCown and for us to not find out anything about Hack or Petty. So we'll know nothing there, which is the most important thing. Then to add the icing on the fuck you cake, they draft a damn 300 pound dlinemen or stay defense like usual and draft a CB. Even worse, they go 3-13 and draft a QB at #3 but that QB turns out to be a bust and the two QBs drafted at one and two turn out to be franchise QBs. Yeah real smart, go ahead and route away!!!

oh, i believe i do.. bowles dramatically trusts seasoned veterans over young ones.. especially if they play on the offensive side of the ball..
as for petty, the idea of bowles being open minded to his progress is definitely a stretch in my book.. he wouldn't let the kid get a sniff of 1st team reps (in camp, or preseason) while saying with a straight face, all three jet QBs had a shot at the starting gig?.
